Uwaga! is the second release by Italian Rome-based trio Squartet, formed in 2004 and featuring Manlio Maresca (guitar), Fabiano Marcucci (bass) and Marco Di Gasbarro (drums).
Following their debut album dated back to 2005 (s/t, JazzcoreInc.), Uwaga! finally express the band's studio potential; the record has been composed throughout Squartet's last three years of activity, along with more than 100 shows in Italy and European Countries, spreading around its ironic and catching up live set.
Born from punk, corrupted by funk, de-evolved into noise, with a taste for jazz, Squartet's music derives from a wide array of influences (from Wes Montgomery to Charles Mingus, Snakefinger, Fred Frith and Meshuggah, just to name but a few) but then developing a strong, recognizable and destructured own style that leaves the audience claiming for more.
Uwaga! includes eleven new lunatic tracks, driving mood from the anxious to the relaxed (L'infame and Perky Pat), switching from funkish tunes (Sexy Camorra) to a straight-but-dissonant surf music (Il Piccolo Samaritano), young punk pictures (The Sad Story of Blue Bird), ostinato riffs and atonal noisy tunes (La Marcia di Tifone).
An album - and a band - that you should definitely check out if you want to tune in to the jazzcore move that is rocking around Europe.
