Squib is a four piece fusion band blending elements of funk, rock, jazz and psychedelia. It is comprised of professional and semi-professional musicians from the far corners of the Midlands, who have played in well known funk and groove bands such as Gran Torino and the legendary Booyaka. They have a wealth of gigging experience from local shows and radio to various British festivals and continental tours.
Squib’s acid voodoo funk is hypnotic and intoxicating, and can shift between straight modal jazz and the kind of super-heavy funk-rock that would give Red Hot Chili Peppers cardiac arrest. Whilst many bands claim to be ‘impossible to pigeonhole’, for Squib this rings true. The closest description they have heard is "dirty eclectic electric rock-jazz hardcore funk fusion". If anyone can sum them up accurately in fewer words however, they would be grateful. You might even win a prize!
Squib’s first gig in Autumn ’07 was as headline act for Coalport’s Woodbridge BOTB Festival. Their promo cd was record of the week twice running on Shropshire Radio. With their six track EP now out on Cosmic Recordings, they are now hitting the festival circuit and recently headlined the last day of Hamswell Festival.
