“With its acoustic guitar driven coolness, emotive lyrics and hint of blues, Squire is underground with mainstream appeal...an international sound that demands attention.” Australian Music Online.
Since forming in Australia, Squire continue to evolve as a band having spent more than two years on the road which has brought them across the globe with live shows across Europe, including supporting Wolfmother and also showcasing at the "In The City" festival in Manchester.
Embracing the excitement and charisma experienced through their European travels, Squire are now based in the hub of Berlin recording their debut album in the former DDR propaganda studios “Planet Roc”.
In particular, Michael and Damian have recently spent a lot of time writing a full orchestral score for their debut album “Your Love Grows In The Sunshine”. “Whether or not the entire score will be used in the final mix is undecided”, Michael says. “We knew that certain songs required the grand scale of an orchestra. Immersing ourselves in experimenting with classical arrangements in our brand of song-writing certainly appealed to us – so we continued the process for songs which hadn’t originally been conceived in that fashion”.
Damian adds; “it is a long process to write a score for the entire record, plus B-sides, over 400 sheets of music so far for 16 voices – but when you hear the results you feel the grandness and richness of these songs come to life”.
Squire ended 2007 playing live shows with a string quartet, which has now grown to playing with their own ‘scaled’ orchestra of 16 pieces at performances in Berlin in early 2008.
A release date for the highly anticipated debut record will be announced soon.
