Susan's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | "With out humor I would just be another chubby gal taking up two seats on the bus. But because I was raised with a lot of laughter and kindness I found my place. I found my home"
Susan Rice is so familiar to her audience her shows should be considered more like a family gathering than a comedy show. Nobody will make you laugh as hard as a beloved old auntie..mother or cousin. Rice depicts all of these and more.
Her entertainment career didn’t start on a stand up stage. It started in college as an actress. She attended USIU School of Performing Arts in San Diego. After college Rice found her rolls limited and the local theater scene dull. Seeking freedom from her day job and a voice that was unique she began writing a "One Women" show.
On March 16th 1983 Susan stepped on the stage of the Leaky Roof Tavern in Portland OR and never acted again. She was a stand up comic.
Two years later she packed her VW and off to Hollywood and fame and fortune. She arrived at the peak of comedy in the LA area and quickly cashed in on her unique style. Rice stood out in everyway in you can in LA. She was chubby and fuzzy haired and at 34 too old for the town. It didn’t stop her. She landed show after show and honed her talent on the road working such prestigious rooms as The Improv’s and The Laff Stopps, Comedy Works in Denver, The Famous Ice House in Pasadena.
Rices first television shot was a national spot on ABC for the comedy genius George Schlatter. She did several shots on his show Comedy Club and from there was booked on the doomed Pat Sajak Show.
Soon she added An Evening at the Improv, Comedy Express and Showtime’s Comedy on the Road. It was a magical time and she enjoyed it all.
Over the years Susan has added Corporate work to her busy schedule as well as cruislines. For 26 years her passion for comedy has not wained it has only grown more intense. Her act has spanned the age groups and she finds an audience in just about every demographic.
Even the younger bikers like her.
" Comedy needs people like Susan Rice. She is the "everywoman" of comedy. The real deal. "

About me:
I have been a stand-up comic forever I think. Technically it has been 24 years.
I have performed in all kinds of venues and so far nobodies been hurt.
Here are some of my favorites open and closed.
The Improvs, Igby's The Icehouse, Harvey's, Comedy Works, Wits End,
Indianapolis Comedy Connection, Laff Stops, Boise Funny Bone,
My television credits are old but gee it was fun doing them:
Comic Stripe Live, Comedy Express. Evening at the Improv and yes even
premiere week of the imfamous Pat Sajak Show.. whheee! Comedy Central
Stand up Stand up! Showtime Comedy on the Road and my big break in
1989 George Schlatters Comedy Club. I met the man and he is such a nice
a guy. ( He created "Laugh In") And was recently honored on the 2008
Emmy Awards. He opened many doors for me in Hollywood and I am so
grateful.
I have peformed for cruiselines but now prefer to stay closer to home. (I'm practicing for house arrest never hurts to plan for the furture.)
I lived in LA for about 13 years and learned so much about the business it convinced me to move back to the Pacific Northwest and enjoy my middle age with out the guilt.
The one main thing you should know is with me it is all about the funny!
