After eight years and thirteen releases, Scott Sturgis (Pain Station, notime, converter) decided it was time to try something new, something novel, and yet still something undeniably Sturgis. The opportunity to do just that presented itself when he was invited to open for local friends euphondisson at the Rendezvous in Seattle, WA on January 8th 2004.
With music written specifically for this special event, Sturgis introduced a more sonorous persona, performing his laid-back set to distinctive abstract visuals. As someone who has always shown an exceptional creative edge (as exemplified by his conceptual notime project), he recorded the audio portion of the event, capturing not only the music, but the experience of being in a haze.
Featuring the six extraordinary tracks from his performance, in a haze encompasses a cross-section of genres, with excursions into textural ambience, down tempo beats, dub-influenced fragments, tribal rhythms, spaced-out psychedelic hues and a touch of industrial flavor.
Man... I've got my audio-technica studio head phones on and it's the first time my head has vibrated from bass... no shit. I think it was the track 'free'. Awesome sounds. All the comments mention a bunch of other work so I'll have to track it down. :)
How you doing?Just wanted to drop in and say hello.I'm looking forward to hearing what you do next.I'm trying to constantly evolve as a musician. There is always something new no matter what they say.Take care.
Hey Scott, thanx for the add. I've been a big fan since *Shock Front*. I really like the In A Haze work also. Excellent chillout stuff. Very nice artwork too...
thanx for the add. your music is my constant soundtrack. i am most familiar w/converter and pain station, but i have read good reviews of other projects, now if i only lived in a nice town that had a decent cd store...sigh. i only wish i had your musical talent! you kick so much a$$!
Hi Scott,
found you by coincidence at myspace. thanx for adding me as friend. I really like Converter, but was more a fan of Pain Station since I've listened to Dead is Dead. To see, that there is more stuff of you besides your projects is great for me. keep up the good work and thanx for some dark hours sitting in the train, listening again and again to Dead is Dead while crossing the northern territories of Germany (those who knows: it's very dead there :-) )
