Contemplative Dancing

Dance is the rhythm of Creation. When we dance in a contemplative way we feel the ground under our feet and listen to the vibrations in the earth and we are at the same time also connecting to God with all our senses and movements.

In movement everything becomes vibration - the sound, the light, the movement.

The faster we move the more everything becomes one. Sometimes we come to spin in extremely fast circles (with our cheeks flying like those of astronauts at take-off) without becoming even dizzy at all after a few minutes of doing it. When we move like this in high speed all the colours that are in the room become first rainbow colours and then blend into one circular light and we suddenly register sounds in the music that we would not have picked up on otherwise.


At other times we are led into movements that are totally new to us and it is often amazing that we are able to perform them at all, never mind recreating them over and over again.

The pace is also guided by the Holy Spirit: From the speed of light inducing highest levels of ecstasy, love and joy that we are sending out as our prayer, to near standstill and stagnation depending on what energy we are being guided towards by the Holy Spirit.

As much as the high speed induces highest and fastest perception of sound, movement and light the low pace enables us to tune into ourselves, our bodies and into the earth with all its innermost processes and often outcries from deep within.


Sometimes the transition is smooth, sometimes it is very abrupt and sometimes the dance is involving and leading us also to other dimensions by bringing our attention to certain details in the pauses or at the end of a phase.


As with all contemplation never sit down with the intention to dance.

If we pray and live through the day trying to make everything a prayer and service to God, we will be led towards that which will bring healing to creation and to our own bodies, souls, and hear
