Stacey Blood is a cat from Texas. Well, he has technically spent the last 13 years of his life in California, but you won't tell him he's from California. "Hey, I left Texas when I was 18. That's 18 years to 13 years, I'm from Texas. If I'm still here in 5 years we'll possibly open some dialogue about any Californization."
Blood spent a decade as a disc jockey for several commercial radio stations in California before giving it up to focus on his music in 2004. "I just got tired of it. I mean, yeah it's an easy job but a serious compromise to my artistic side. Met a lot of cool people, but too many times during all of that I was so distracted with writing. I only had room for one creative outlet at the time. Oh yeah, it didn't pay anything either. Can't leave that out."
While in Fresno in 2001 Stacey got an email one night from a struggling producer in Fresno, CA who had just put up a small studio and was looking for talent to work with. This was the beginning of a long friendship and musical kinship. The producer, it turns out, is now Nashville's rising star producer David Norris. On his bidding, Blood hit the studio in late 2003 to produce 2004's "Reversed Space" with Fresno's Peter Wolf. Stacey recalls producing "Reversed Space": "This was an interesting record. It started out, I was given an opportunity to get a demo of my music to Geoff Emerick, the Beatles old engineer, so we went to bang some songs out. In the middle of recording the guy retires and we just said 'oh well, let's finish the thing'. I mean, I have lots of influences.. lots.. so it was really a way of just trying to find out where I was at. I hadn't written a single thing in over two years at the time so I really had no idea where I was at. That's why it's so eclectic."
In 2007, Stacey finally joined forces with Norris in Nashville, TN and recorded 4 very important sides in Stacey's career. "It was amazing", Blood gushed. "Working with the best players in the world, getting to make music with Dave, in the atmosphere of Nashville... oh yeahhh." Blood is already turning heads in Nashville with his song "Last Night's Dream". "Last Night's Dream is a song you have to write when you're just coming out of sleep. You just don't feel right putting down those weird ideas and events and descriptions from a dream when you're awake and know better."
Be on the look out for Stacey Blood in Nashville as he begins to hit stages in late October.
