me...this album is a blend of a few different styles
About me...I’m someone who’s been singing since just about forever, started playing piano in middle school & performed in lots of plays & musicals. Music has always been a part of my soul but, to be honest, a pretty bad case of self-doubt has kept me from really pursuing it on a bigger level. I also wanted to find a true purpose for my voice and not just sing other people’s stories. I wanted to write & sing my own story but never believed I could. (People always find this hard to believe, that I had this much self-doubt, but it’s true! Some days it creeps back up on me!)
The short of a really long story is that not only did my faith in God make me stronger, but I also wanted my children to see that God gave us gifts to use for a reason & that it is never too late to find the purpose. I was inspired to pen my first songs after watching Nichole Nordeman perform at a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) conference in Nashville, TN in Sept. 2006. I hope someday I can tell her in person how she changed my life that day. With tears in my eyes I listened to her very human stories & heard her incredibly moving vocals...I looked over at my friends that day and said, “I wish I could do that”... From that moment, as I had for so long, I prayed God would give me the strength to tell my own story and let me use my voice to share it. It was honestly within a week that I came home and out of nowhere grabbed a yellow legal pad a pencil and began writing out my first song so fast I couldn’t believe it. I was actually crying while writing it, because I was amazed that it appeared to really be something! Within about 2 hours I had my first song called “Faithful”. Since that day, the songs have just been coming out, lyrics & melody, usually sort of at the same time.
Once I began writing, within 6 months I had more than enough for an album. I hired a producer & took the first leap of faith in recording my first album. It’s been a whirlwind but I can honestly say that I feel God leading me & I am thrilled every single time someone emails me about how one of my lyrics touched their heart. I know this is what I need to be doing and exactly what God was whispering to me for so long. I am thankful as well that my children are learning the lesson of never giving up. Part of that lesson is in a song I wrote a song called “You Inspire”...you can check out a sample on cdbaby or iTunes, where you can hear excerpts from my entire album. Finally, I pray I can be a singer/songwriter that is inspiring you to follow your heart, believe in yourself & love those around you!
