CD REVIEW FROM DULUTH NEWS TRIBUNE:
Stacy K is a new talent on the Minnesota music scene who has a brand new EP called “Little Glass Houses”
Stacy has a disarmingly mature voice.
She blends (like many good songwriters) a keen eye for
observation, elements of her own personal experience and a
vivid imagination. It’s never transparent how that division
breaks down, but her expressive pipes keep your ear glued to
the story line.
The places and elements that she references are always
unexpected and a bit unusual, but that’s part of the charm.
Journaling began as young as 12 or 13 and that discipline
has paid off in canny and clever songwriting that is wise
beyond her years. When something intrigues Stacy, she
writes about it in journal and in song. In the latter, it’s never
cliché or repackaged. It’s fresh and incisive.
With her eye for detail, good writing instincts and that expressive voice, there would appear
to be many more good records down the line for Stacy K. –John Ziegler, Duluth News Tribune.
STACY K & THE GROOVESTAINS BIOGRAPHY
Stacy K and the GrooveStains are a talented and dynamic four piece folk rock band based out of Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota.
Stacy K began playing original music as a solo artist in the Twin Cities in 2006; bringing musical guests to join the stage from time to time. It wasn’t until the Fall of 2007 while attending McNally Smith College of Music that Stacy K met her band mates, the GrooveStains; Kevin Weaver on drums, Trent Baarspul on guitar, and Beau Jeffreys on bass. In January of 2008, Stacy K and Trent Baarspul went into the studio to record the 5 song acoustic EP Little Glass Houses. Following the release of the EP the band hit the road during the early and late spring of 2008.
Stacy K and the GrooveStains live show is very impressive. The members are all very talented individually and when put together their chemistry is evident to all. They turn heads and captivate audiences with their genuine performance and unique sound. Their high energy show is appealing to all walks of life and is said to be like a breath of fresh air.
One of the greatest compliments and draws about Stacy K and the GrooveStains is stylistically the music moves around a variety of genres, yet still has their signature folk rock sound. Stacy K does a large amount of the songwriting, yet most recently the writing has become a full band collaboration.
Stacy K and the GrooveStains are currently in the studio recording another 5 song EP to be released August of 2008 and plan to tour shortly after. This is a band you want to keep both eyes on. They are a part of the next generation of great musical artists coming out of the artistic hub of the Twin Cities.
