My main interests are my amazing husband who spoils me and makes me laugh, my step-kids who are amazing and complex, my furry kids who are my salvation, and (as you can see from the video of kittens) animal rescue. Other interests include anything related to writing, reading, making a difference in the world, and learning about history, nature and life.
"I do not separate people, as do the narrow-minded, into Greeks and barbarians. I am not interested in the origin or race of citizens. I only distinguish them on the basis of their virtue. For me each good foreigner is a Greek and each bad Greek is worse than a barbarian."
Music
Evanescence, Enya, Staind, Mozart, Pearl Jam, U2, Creed, Lorena McKennit, 70's - 80's oldies, Nickelback, Matchbox 20,Sara McLachlan, Elton John (the classics)... I have a pretty wide variety of things I like to listen too, but I'm definitely not a fan of Rap, and I hate any music that is "redundant"...
Movies
Somersby, Gladiator, Braveheart, Bourne Identity (et al), American Treasure, Blade (et al), Fight Club, Sahara, Mad Max, Pirates (et al), Tomb Raider (et al)
"On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero..." ~Fight Club movie, screenplay by Jim Uhls, novel by Chuck Palahniuk.
Television
LOST! is there anything else? Oh wait.. Wipeout is always great for a laugh, True Blood (although the books are far better), Dirt, House (Gotta love him). Whatever I have time for...
Books
"If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats..."
Any historical fiction, paranormal (but I just got into it recently), action, humor, some romance (if it has a plot). I recently picked up Stephenie Meyer's books and loved those, also liked Harry Potter (et al). Favorite classics include The Odyssey, anything from Shakespeare, Beowolf (the text, not the movie) and pretty much any pre-18th century English Literature. American Literature is far too wearisome.
Heroes
Those who have changed or helped define the world throughout history are fascinating to me. Alexander the Great, Socrates, Aristotle, Copernicus... There are far too many to list.
In the words of Alexander the Great:
"I would rather live a short life of glory than a long one of obscurity"...(aka, "Its better to burn out than fade away")
One of my all-time favorite philosophers is Richard Bach:
"The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls the butterfly."
Stacy Mantle has become known as the "&Erma Bombeck of animals" for good reason. Her humorous, (take-no-prisoners, writing style is interwoven with poignant vignettes of courage and loyalty shown by the animals she shares her home with. Her books inspire her readers to new respect and appreciation for all animals, everywhere.
Home: Stacy is a full-time professional writer, and works from her home studio and office located in the beautiful southwestern desert area of Arizona. Living the life she writes about, her household includes an ever-changing number of cats, dogs, fish, and turtles, as well as a coyote/wolf hybrid, and a very, VERY understanding husband.
Community: A dedicated animal activist and rescuer, Stacy regularly participates in Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) projects, determined to help reduce the numbers of feral cats across the country and educate the world on their plight. She is also active in wolf hybrid and cat rescue, when room in her crowded home allows, often fostering young and/or abused animals in her home until they are healthy enough for adoption.
In 2004, teaming up with business partner and illustrator, Jill Carpenter, Stacy wrote an award-winning children's book called, "So, You Have a New Kitten!,, aimed at educating children and their parents about the importance of responsible pet care. This book was quickly followed by "So, You Have a New Puppy!,, in 2005.
This year thousands of these privately sponsored ,,Children's Learning & Activity" books are being donated to, and distributed by, humane and rescue organizations across the Southwest.
Business: Stacy has been Managing Director of Southwest Educational Publishing for over a decade, and in 2005 became a Managing Partner in GrokQuest!, LLC. Both companies specialize in curriculum development and children's educational materials, with GrokQuest offering additional consulting services, corporate curriculum for custom management or employee training packages, as well as full commercial art and graphic design services for businesses.
Online: Stacy writes two monthly pet product review columns on her PetsWeekly website: On the Prowl: A Feline Purr&spective, and The Weekly Growl: A Canine Commentary. Featuring only the best of the newest pet products on the market, her reviews are based on rigorous, in-house testing by her menagerie of animals. As a result, her reviews and recommendations are greatly prized, and sought after by major vendors in today's booming pet product industry.
Her stories, articles and reviews can be found in such print publications as The Arabian Horse Times, Today's AZ Woman, Pets Illustrated, Cat Fancy Magazine and many others.
The World:
Many of her stories and articles have been translated into several languages, and now reach an international audience.
Who I'd like to meet: Alexander the Great (Is he online?), Cleopatra, Julius Ceasar, Ghandhi, Keri Arthur (author), Stephenie Meyers (author), the cast of LOST!
thank you for being my friend! if you know anyone looking for a fur kid, make sure to tell them about me! P.S. on behalf of my kind everywhere...thank you!
Hi. Thanks for adding
me as a friend. I just wanted to let you
know that my vampire book came out two weeks ago to rave reviews and is now
available on Barnesandnoble.com, Amazon.com.
Thank you for your time.
Oh you did make it then? Cool! The last 10,000 words I wrote were actually good but are mostly Kerouac-esque metafictionish nonsense. Hahaha I figure I'll take a week or two off, then re-write a chapter a week and then I'll call that official "shitty first draft."
I will tell the gang you said hello, assuming there will be a gang there tonight
Manuscript... I'm not really sure. There has been a little bit of interest in my band's fanbase. They've been writing asking if I will print copies and sell them. Depending on how bad or good it is, I may consider rewriting it, try to find an affordable copyediting service, maybe sweet talk the guy who did our CD art into making me a nice covering and finding a way to do a short run... POD? That's so expensive though. It would be cool to have for sale at our shows with the CDs, t-shirts and so on. It's gunna really hard to keep it under 10 bucks though and the book can't suck. Let me know if you have any ideas. I just need to keep it cheap for the fanbase and I don't need more than 100 copies.
I'll happily send you a copy of the manuscript if you'd like to read it (and maybe tell me what you did and didn't like).
Yea, I've been feeling guilty about not showing up for the events so I'm gunna represent tonight.
You coming out to the xTreme Overnight thing in Tempe? I will NOT be staying all night. Those folks are insane. I will be there around 7 or 7:30 though and wearing a cowboy hat. So say Hi if you go. Cheers.
Hi Stacy! How's the Nanowrimo going? I'm lagging behind a little (but I still have a higher word count than founder Chris Baty!) I might even take a paid day off next week to catch up. My boss has been getting on me because I haven't used any PTO since my band went on tour last year.
Yea... I have to say that reality really gets in the way of telling my story. Once I do a little research, my story don't work and I have to go in another direction. Argh. I also know more about scandals and corruption in the professional "sport" of bass fishing than probably anybody outside of the deep south.
Any big plans for Dec 1st? I'm thinking of getting a pound of snapping turtle meat shipped to Arizona to have turtle soup and beer. But I'll have to eat it myself because I can't seem to find other friends who will eat turtle with me and turtle meat is $25 a pound. Ouch.
Lol Stacy! Yeah, friends in high places are good. I'm glad he's in the "high" place and not the "low" place. Although, you are sure about that, right? ;) Giselle
BTW, have you seen my website discussion board? It's a fun forum with a lot of interesting people from all over the world talking about the Rain Fall movie (recently wrapped shooting in Tokyo and NYC), the next book, writing, politics, single malt whisky, and anything else that strikes people's fancy, and we do a monthly chat on writing, too, so if you have a chance, stop by and say hello. It would be good to see you there...
