My favorite vocals belong to Jamie O'Neal, Jann Arden, Mindy Smith, Gillian Welch, Rachel Yamagata, Angel Snow, Kat Bode(East Mountain South), Johnette Napolitano, Robinella, Margot Timmins(Cowboy Junkies), Karen Berquist(Over The Rhine), Danielle Brisebois, Brandi Carlisle , Toni Holliday (Curve), Shirley Manson (Garbage), Ani Difranco, Gretchen Wilson, Allison Krauss, Cindy Lauper. When it's not mainly about admiring voice talents, I listen to a ton of Ragbird (who's lead -singer, Erin Zindle, has a sweet beautiful voice, like a bird :)
Jazz (Holly Cole), swing (Michael Buble), jug bands/Appalachian, bluegrass/country (Bela Fleck, Union Station, Spring Creek, etc. etc.), blues-rock (Allman Brothers), moody modern rock (Elliot Smith, The Violet Burning), some rockabilly-ish stuff (Stray Cats), Americana/Texas Country (Hayes Carll, The Steeldrivers). (too many to list).
I like a lot of stuff and it'd be a complicated list if I tried to make more of one. Different music does different things for me.
Movies
I took acting in college and would love to do more of it. Instead of a movie list, I have an actor list:
Mark Whalberg, Meg Ryan, De Niro, Pacino, John Cusack, Will Farrell, Britney Murphy.
Television
SNL, Jimmy Fallon, It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia, How I Met Your Mother, CMT
Books
Eats, Shoots, and Leaves (Truss) Talk to the Hand (Truss)
Effortless Mastery (Kenny Warner)
Cinderella's Big Score (Maria Raha)
Poetry: from Helen Steiner Rice to Poe
Heroes
The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, meekness, humility, and self-control.
I am an aspiring singer.
My music of choice is a blend of Country-Americana/Appalachian Bluegrass/ Roots/Blues.
Getting my music on this page is an ongoing task. Feel free to read my blog "back to the keyboard" for an explanation as to where I come from musically. I hope you enjoy whoever I play on my page in the meantime. But, if you don't, you have no taste! ha-ha Many of the songs on here are artists that I can be reasonably compared to; vocally speaking. (Over The Rhine, Amy Lee) And when my music can be added here, I hope you like me better than any other. If you're a songwriting type, hit me up and we will try to help each other out. If guitars and keyboards can be added, we will have something to put on this page.
Lyrics are the most important aspect of music to me. That's why I like so many different genres of music. It's about the message in the song that matters. (Telling stories about life and it's great unfolding. LOL)
..
Who I'd like to meet:
We are all a little weird and life's a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.
Singers and musicians; anyone in the arts or anyone who just loves the arts. (songwriters, esp.) I like people who like to laugh and make people laugh. People who don't take themselves so seriously! People who allow you to be yourself and appreciate the freedom to be themselves.
