What do you get when Tom Waits and Tori Amos have an affair? Well, their love child, of course. One listener said that love child would be Stacy Rock.
Reading that, Stacy cocked her head and said: "I don't sound like Tori Amos, neither on the piano or in the voice, but I do play piano and I do have a voice, so I can see how the comparison might be drawn!" Then she smiled because someone wrote her name and Tom Wait's name in the same week, even the same sentence.
Stacy's a storyteller. Everything inside her music, be it the melody or the production, exists to tell a story. You see, Stacy was adopted and the only past she had was the freedom to make up any damn story she wanted to about herself (and everything around her). So she did. She gave Jim a Lifeline and filled an entire planet with Marigolds, she also told the entire town that her dad was building a spaceship in the basement, and then she cried when the entire town said her dad ate too many pancakes.
See that picture up there? That's pretty darn close to Stacy's house and yes, that's a modern picture, that ain't old. See, she grew up in a remote part of Montana, buffalo grazing behind her house and only one other person in her sixth grade class. The first kid she ever met threw a dust pan at her. They did become friends and spend a lot of time together but most of Stacy's time was spent in her head or arranging stuffed animals for concerts.
She began playing classical piano at the age of 5, encouraged by an old jazz drummer she met while her family was on vacation. He said she had a knack for music. Thank god she had a knack for that because the only other talent she came out with was shot gunnin' a beer. Well, that's not fair, she discovered she had an ability to pretend she was other people, usually crazy ones.

Mark Fisher "The classically trained pianist is quite the storyteller, utilizing elements of folk, country, vaudeville, and rock in the vein of Tom Waits or early eighties Bob Dylan to create a memorable backdrop for each song . . . The lounge styling of "Marigolds" is another striking moment. Taking a break from the singer/songwriter fare for a moment, Rock bridges the gap between legends like Etta James and modern day legends in the making like Jen Chapin. Clear, succinct, and sexy, Rock delivers flawlessly on this song in particular. "

Things to Do "Stacy Rock has an astounding technical virtuosity and polish vocally and musically. And she's gorgeous to boot. Imagine Fiona Apple's work crossed with Tori Amos/Sarah McLaughlin vocals. Now imagine all of that music coming out of Famke Janssen. That's Stacy Rock."

seasoned New York City (where she currently resides) pop singer/songwriter.
Excellent!"

Jeffrey Kurtis "It's not too often that you hear of an emerging artist coming from Montana, but now that Stacy Rock has arrived that's all about to change. She brings an older feel with newer sensibilities to the table on this piano laced album that will certainly make you listen ...... There is enough mixture of pop with classic piano influence to keep this fresh and exciting and I am looking forward to seeing where she goes with this album in the industry. This is a great record that stands on its own two feet and I can only hope that people out there open their minds up enough to wrap their arms around an album like this. I love this record for many reasons and welcome it to my collection."

Forgive me for the random Til Tuesday reference. I saw Aimee Mann on your friend list there. She's one of my favorites. Anyways, I remember you 2 from when you played at Club Khameleon in Kent,OH.
I just wanted to tell you that Club K has been blown up by terrorists [actually, it was by city officials to make way for a new bridge.] Bottom line, it no longer exists. If your band comes to the Cleveland/Akron/Kent area again, please contact me. I have good connections with the local venues here. I'll hook you up. In the meantime take care and keep rockin'. Meow.
