At this point I tend to pass the question on to someone else...
Recent replies have been;
"Boot leather tough and just a little cocksure" "Someone always dies" "Outsider music" "Don't forget to mention Jonathan Richman"
Personally I don't get the Joy Division thing...

   About Staggerin’ Jon Lee & His Lo-Life Drifters

It all began many years ago in RAF Hospital Wegberg, a place that no longer exists in a country that no longer exists and took in many salubrious forces bases until arriving in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1988.

You could get a student grant then, you know.

Since then Staggerin' Jon Lee has struck fear into audiences/been barred from venues with Hogweed, The Tribbles, Bonsai Populous, Manslaughter, The Coyote Men, The Country Irregulars, Los Morellos, Jumbo, The Ferriday Fireballs, Ukulele All-Stars and lots of other bands whose names I have forgotten.

Seven years ago he started to sing and the world trembled..

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Hello Jon,

We recorded some acoustic songs for BBC Tees the other week that we think you might enjoy. The instruments used include a Banjo, a bucket and a pringles tube. Have you got any gigs coming up?

Hello! Thanks for chasing us up, we were just about to go looking for you.

Me and Danielle loved the Victorian Medicine one but Ned preferred your last song, as a man who appreciates any track beginning with 'all women are whores'.

Hope to catch you again sometime.

Dear all
Its here people it's time to vote for your favorite Dirty Little Tyneside Boogie/Blues band. Saltlick have been shortlisted from hundreds of bands who played gigs for oxfam last year to enter an online competition to win a slot at this years Leeds festival. Only 20 bands were selected for the competition so we are in with a good chance. Here is all the bumph

Voting for the Oxjam competition will begin this Friday 13 Feb at 5pm.

The page will be navigatable from the Oxjam homepage. Saltlick will be featured on the Oxjam website for 2 weeks.

The act with the most public votes in that time will be announced as the competition winners and will have guest passes to Leeds Festival where they will play on an Oxfam stage.

We would really appreciate your support and vote to help us play the blues to the masses at this years Leeds fest

Cheers
