Female wordsmith staHHr, a self-proclaimed “lyrical warrior”, has been perfecting her craft and honing her mc skills since the latter part of hip hop’s” Golden Era”. Carving a niche for herself by interweaving intellect and social awareness with pure, unadulterated hip hop, she provides a welcome breath of fresh air. After stellar performances on DOOM's “Born Like This”, King Geedorah‘s "Take Me to Your Leader", C-Rayz Walz “Chorus Rhyme” and the Micranots “Obelisk Movements”, she now preps the hip hop world to hear the much needed woman’s perspective with her debut album “Almost Neva Was”, released by Beatvizion Music . Memphis-born and Atlanta-based staHHr is equipped to hold her own on the mic, “off the dome”, and with the written rhymes regardless of place of origin or gender.
Formerly known as staHHr tha “f.e.m.c.e.e.” , being referred to as a "Femcee" vs an "mcee" has been a constant source of commentary throughout her career. According to the Official I.M.press herself, "I chose f.e.m.c.e.e. as an acronym to describe self, an honorary title if you will. It was creative and original, that’s Hiphop. I definitely put the term on the map, and now I see it being used everywhere, which is empowering. Being a female is a plus, especially when you have intellect and lyrics; it sets you a part in a good way. I’m not anti-male, nor pro-woman; I’m for balance and being complementary. I represent all women [in Hiphop] that know we don't have to de-feminize, nor overtly sexualize ourselves to be acknowledged or respected by our male peers. People appreciate authenticity, so as long as I’m true to myself, you gotta love that. At the end of the day, I know that I have earned my stripes and come this far because of my abilities, not my gender. I retired that title because it has served it purpose.”
This lyrical powerhouse has graced many audiences, functioning as a vessel for the Creator of ALL, the ancestors and people that are aware of what’s going on around them. staHHr has shared stages, ciphers, and/or studio time with the likes of MF Doom, KRS ONE, John Robinson, Boot Camp Clik, Immortal Technique, Pumpkinhead, Poison Pen, LIFE LONG, C-rayz Walz, One BeLo, Count Bass D, Binkis Records, Micranots, Scienz of Life, NYOIL, Dilated Peoples and many others.
She has performed at the legendary SOB's (NYC), Lyricist Lounge,(ATL) End of the Weak(NYC), Sweet Auburn Fest, Rocksteady, Mic Club, Automatic Classic, CREW LOVE, participated in the infamous Blaze Battles, and toured with MF Doom and Talib Kweli on “The Beautiful Struggle Tour” 2004. Her first 12-inch single, "Rhymefluid," received excellent reviews in Urb, Elemental, and Creative Loafing and maintained a strong position in the Top 25 Hip Hop Singles on the 2002 CMJ charts as well. Multifaceted, staHHr is also a talented crochet artist, mother, holistic health & nutrition enthusiast and active in several community-based organizations.
