Stain likes to think of itself as more of an ARTS LOUNGE than a bar (although we do enjoy our wine and beer). We're always looking to book unique events to fill our eclectic monthly calendar.
Have something you want to celebrate? Some talent you want to showcase? Write to us and let us know what you had in mind and we'll help make it happen!
Music
Stain's favorite regulars and alums (we'll say we knew you when, man!): downtempo duo Tin Veil, the unclassifiable Benicio and the del Toros, Amphis-Baena, singer songwriters Clifton Hyde, Steve Ferrara, Laura Brenneman, Amanda Schmidt and so many others.
Want to play here? We're looking for small (trios and under), as acoustic as can be, low-volume (we have neighbors), unique acts up for a low-key, tip-jar situation.
Books
Stain's owner, Krista Madsen, is a two-time novelist! Check out her books here and here, in a bookstore near you, or at Stain.

In a place so cozy you'll never want to leave, we invite you to enjoy: drinks from our NEW YORK-only list, from local wine and beer to our inventive wine mixed drinks, New York's famous jumbo soft-baked pretzels, free wireless internet, the smoker-friendly garden open all year where you can bring your own food and use our grills, the ongoing mural, the board games, the book shelf, the live music, upright piano, old-school video games, the stray hoola hoop, craft nights (Mondays), open mics (Wednesdays), art openings (first Thursdays), costume theme parties (every 31st), an inventive ever-changing array of events from literary readings to film screenings, and daily happy hour specials (5 to 8 p.m.), make-your-mark notebooks, anything-goes attitude, and always great conversation.
Our one regret about our New York music experience is that we could not play one more show at Stain. This place was the most important place we played in this city. Keep us up on all of your future projects.
So one might think it ends here . . YEAH RIGHT . . WE still have a box set worth of recorded audio documentation from our Stain performances btw. 2007-09 . . and only one track out of all that (titled stain boogie) is yet officially released (on a russian multi disc compilation) . .
