When you think of Australian Rap and Hip Hop the underground scene springs to mind, and although talent is in abundance within that scene, there has been a void in the mainstream. Enter Stan Bravo, a rapper destined to fill that void and navigate the uncharted waters of the Australian rap scene on a global scale. Born in the Bronx, New York City on 24th November 1981 but raised in Harlem, Stan "BRAVO" Campbell is a product of hip hop culture. Being influenced by the likes of Run DMC, LL Cool J, Biggie Smalls, Big L & Tupac Shakur, "Growing up in the 80's in New York, I was too young to really digest the music but it wasn't until 1994 when I heard the Notorious B.I.G's 'Ready To Die' LP that I said to myself, this is what I gotta do too". After discovering his passion for writing, having won several literacy awards, Stan was encouraged by his cousin to turn his attention to writing rhymes. While the rhyme itself was mainly about the streets in Harlem, it was enough to impress his older peer. This proved as motivation for Stan but it wasn't until the untimely death of his father at the age of 17 that Stan really took his music seriously. Relocating to
Australia with his mother, older brother and younger sister and settling in the Western Sydney suburb of Blacktown, Bravo began his journey in the unchartered waters of Hip Hop in Australia. "First off, I don't want people to get it twisted. Yes I am from Harlem so of course I am going to represent my town to the fullest, but at the same time I have been living in Sydney for seven years, being educated and having lived in Blacktown in Sydney's Western Suburbs for most of my time in Sydney, its my home. Stan's hunger for success in the Australian rap scene has seen him front and centre as Tour MC at the Ja Rule / Ashanti concerts in 2003 as well as support act for Ruff Ryder Crew's Jin, the legendary Busta Rhymes in 2004 aswell as being a part of the main support act for The Nelly St.luanatic tour.Which saw Stan performing infront of thousands in Syd, Melb and Adelaid His freestyling skills have seen him appear on the unofficial remix of Jeremy Gregory's "That's What's Going Down", Camielle's "Yada,Yada, Yada" hit, J-Wess album Tha LP on an exclusive track called "Reelin'" and the highly successful and official mixtape compilation Blazin' Vols 1, 2, 3 &4 by DJ Nino Brown & DJ Samrai. Stan has recently appereard on Ricki-Lee's album and scored another underground hit with they're collabo on "Hello". Bravo also gained nationwide exposure being featured on Joel Turner's latest single "All Night Long". "Working with these artists and DJ's has been a humbling experience for me. I do so much that they would call me up to work with them!".In 2007 Bravo teamed up with the legendary Dj Peter Gunz to put his now classic mixtapes 2007's "Get Accustomed Vol 1 and the follow up Monster Smash 2008's "American Psycho". Stan is as passionate about how he is perceived by the Australian Music Industry as his feelings about his place within the Hip Hop's family tree. Stan tells us, "My style is me, nothing more, nothing less. I wish I could tell you who to compare me to but I honestly believe I am so versatile that I can't be compared to anybody. I just speak what I feel and that's as real as it gets".
