Most my friends know me as 'Stan Johnson'. 'Dabbs' is my mother's maiden name that I have adopted as a sort of pen name for my fiction writing as of late. I chose it for primarily literary reasons but also feel the automatic adoption of male blood lineage is an outdated tradition, which my wife and I agreed in our marriage to go against, keeping our own last names, having each our own identities...

I like various obscure and traditional music. I began screaming in a punk band as a teenager and have since tried various musical projects. My current musical endeavours include 'OctoberFamine', a dreamy goth experimental project and 'IRS', a reunited punk/hardcore band I was a part of in the late 80s. Some of the bands I like personally include The Damned, Killing Joke, House of Love, Declann DeBara & Iron Maiden.

  • Movies

Of course, horror movies were often my staple diet as a teen. But I enjoy various genres, along with the obscure and the ridiculous! Cronenberg's 'Crash' to me is a classic film, along with the simple drama 'Spring Forward'. Directors I favor include David Cronenberg & Lodge Kerrigan. Favourite actor would be Deborah Unger & Daniel Day-Lewis.
  • Television

I generally despise all reality television. I did like some of HBO's drama series, such as Carnivale, Deadwood & Rome, but was dismayed at their early cancellations. I also enjoyed the show 'Millennium' and 'Criminal Intent'.
  • Books

Best horror author to me is Algernon Blackwood. I also like social/political non-fiction and science authors like Carl Sagan & Richard Ellis, as well as Beat literature from William S. Burroughs and Charles Bukowski. I also enjoyed Max Brooks' zombie epic 'World War Z' and several fiction/non-fiction books by Whitley Strieber.
  • Heroes

There are many people who inspire me, known and unknown, but I hesitate to use the word 'hero' because to me it sort of lends itself toward the idea of 'idolizing' or 'worship'. I love my friends and the beauty of this earth and many of them are heroes in my heart, however, I think we, as human beings, should concentrate, first and foremost, on being caring human beings and thinking of ourselves as 'defenders' rather than 'leaders'. If we allow ourselves, we could become gods of our own destiny, great defenders of our mother earth.

DEVILS BEHIND HOUSES (2009 / Trade PBK / 108 pgs.)

Regina, dissatisfied with her life as a suburban housewife, becomes involved in an erotic and frightening relationship with a neighborhood stranger. She will encounter this very same force, a darkness that latches itself onto her psychological core, threatening to devour her entire world.

A demonic tour de force, this story uses dreams to take you one step beyond the world we see and into a world where your mind can become your worst enemy...

Who I'd like to meet:

All those interested in the shadow places where the dark earth whispers through the wind, across the barren landscape and empty parking lots and abandoned buildings. Listen to the voice that sings a silent song between houses and you will embrace what it means to see beyond the world set in front of you. You can once again come back into the shadows and see the eerie beauty of all that it holds.
