The Stand Up Rally was founded by Austin Voices for Education and Youth in 2006 to raise the awareness of the high school drop out epidemic that now threatens our nation’s young people. Based upon statistics taking from the EDin'08 website 1.2 million students in America drop out of high school, 1/4 high school don't graduate on time, 3 to 10 college freshman repeat high school class, and 65% of convicted felons are high school drops.
There is a saying that says every 24 second a student drops out of high school! That means that by the time you finish reading this 2 to 3 students will have made the decision not to return to school.
That is why Austin Voices had set out to put on these events like the Stand Up Rally that will be taking place on SEPT. 9TH 2007 @ FIESTA GARDENS located right next to the Chicano Park.
But it doesn't end there we also have an on going effort called Stand Up Clubs in five different high schools in A.I.S.D. These Stand Up Clubs are located in Johnston, Lanier, LBJ, Akins, and Reagan high schools with the hopes of educating students and parents about the High School Redesign effort that is taking place in many of the high schools throughout the state of Texas. Stand Up Clubs are centered on youth voice to help students express their ideas, needs, and desires of the kind of education that they feel is sufficient for them.
