Stand Up To Stop Suicide's Comedian Bio
BioShockingly, suicide is one of the biggest killers of young men. CALM is a slightly offbeat, punchy campaign which offers young men advice and support via its www.thecalmzone.net website. The charity was launched last year with the support of MTV and Ogilvy & Mather, and featured some very striking and cool ads.

About me:

Metro presents two stunning Stand Up To Stop Suicide fundraising nights for CALM in Liverpool and Manchester 13th and 14th November.

We said we wanted to do it and we have! With support from Tongue in Cheek Comedy, Mood bar and Bar XS we give you two Stand Up To Stop Suicide comedy gigs featuring the cream of North West talent and the bargain price of £7 a ticket plus BF. You can't afford to miss these.

We might have a side-splitting evening lined up, but suicide’s no laughing matter. In fact, it’s one of the leading causes of death for men aged between 15 and 35. Over the last 5 years, more young men have killed themselves than have died from any other single cause – whether that be traffic accidents, AIDS or drug overdoses. The campaign against living miserably is there to offer young men help, information and advice when they hit that wall and need some support.

Our funds are running out and we’ve recently had to close our helpline. We aim to raise money with “Stand Up To Stop Suicide”, and relaunch our service so the men who need us can find the help that will save their lives. They may not be cuddly and cute, but they deserve our help and respect and time. They’re our young men. Our friends, our fathers, our sons, our husbands and our brothers.

Click here to visit our website and help CALM stand up for these young men.

These nights will be fresh, in your face and damn good fun.

Liverpool Mood Bar, Concert Sq Tuesday 13th November 2007.

Daliso Chaponda - “A comedian with raw Eddie Murphy confidence, cheek and super-polished style” - Nerve, Liverpool

Manchester, Bar XS, Wilmslow Rd, Wednesday 14th November 2007,

WE NEED MONEY!

Our online helpline service has had to be suspended due to a lack of funds. We desperately need money to get this up and running again so that we can continue to offer young men help, advice and support when they’re down.

It doesn’t matter how much you give – everything helps. You can make a one off or regular donation.

Get your company to support the campaign with a £100 donation. We’re looking for 500 companies to donate £100 each.

You can even help CALM by getting active
if you’re up for a challenge and are willing to do a sponsored run, swim or anything else, it would mean so much to us. You can donate the money you raise via www.justgiving.com/CALM

If you’ve got other fundraising ideas or can offer your help in any other way, we’d love to hear from you. Jane Powell’s the woman to speak to, and you can contact her at janepowell@thecalmzone.net

After the success of last month, WE ARE BACK!

Warning! This product also contains the BAP confession booth, the "World Famous" Bloody Awful Poetry competition (submit a truly awful poem on our page and you could win goodies), a big kiss on the dance floor and maybe some nuts.

Come join us! Lets ply ourselves with enough alcohol to sink a small Oliver Reed.

Nov 13 2007 8:49 AM

Another weekend of Bloody Awful Poetry is fast approaching us!

On Saturday 17th November at the wondrous watering hole that is Nambucca, we have the bouncetabulous Dexter headlining, with awesome supports in the likes of the tremendous Rum Shebeen, the folktastic The Prelude and the terrific Milk Kan
The very next day, we relax and sip dry sherry at the marvelous Monkey Chews. And are joined by another 4 splendid acts. Friends Of The Bride, Looker, Jon Byrne and Marcus Mumford. So, come join us for a bevvy. Lets pull on our dancing shoes, tie our dicky bows, and ply ourselves with enough alcohol to sink a small Oliver Reed.
Also, go enter our bloody awful poetry competition. Just post some of your truly terrible poetry on our page. The worst wins. Its simple!
