- Stan “The Man” Hedges has released his solo project "Two Mule Parade" that is currently placing him in the upper echelon of the Blues Scene.
As of 12-29-07 after only 2 weeks on the charts, "Two Mule Parade" is number 12 on the "Roots Music Report/ Blues Deluxe Roster" and has drawn many accolades from the press, such as: "Startingly good, both for the quality of the music and the breadth of its territory.....ought to win a Grammy (Seriously)!" Brad Martin- Tennessee Press Association Nov, 2007.
- Born in 1957 in the coal mining country of Morganfield (Union County), KY; raised in Uniontown and Paducah, KY; Stan’s grandfather, Luster F. Petty, was a famous riverboat captain who made commercials for Texaco and his father was a riverboat pilot. Stan grew up with a lot of riverboat songs being sung, and a lot of Folk, Country, and Blues being played on the record player. His mother Jane was a music major with a booming voice and still plays guitar and sings folk and gospel songs despite being classically trained. Father Billy Hedges was a trumpet player who sang in the style of Al Jolson and Frank Sinatra as well as a "Golden Glove" Boxing Champ. Hedges relates that his mother was probably his biggest influence, mainly due to her singing everyday and the choice of music she played on the record player. His parents sometimes performed at local nightclubs together.
- Stan started playing guitar at 11 years old, learning Folk, Blues, and Country songs by ear. He never had a formal lesson but learned Blues from an old janitor at school named Jessie. In 1972 he moved to Hendersonville, TN, and began jamming forming bands with stellar guitarists Joel Bise and Steve Roper, playing R&B, Rock, Country, Blues, Top-40. After touring the U.S. and Canada with several popular regional groups including friends Bise, Jeannie Lavalley and Cary Woolery, he decided to concentrate on the music he loved, The Blues.
- While playing on a “Cowboy” Jack Clement produced session for Celinda Pink in the late 80’s, Hedges met harmonica ace “Chicago” Charlie Fink and found a partner in the blues and together immediately started rehearsing Fink’s old band, The Businessmen, and began playing Nashville blues clubs. Charlie married Stan's sister, Nan, making family gatherings a wonderful blues musical event. Stan and Charlie have been best friends and music partners for twenty years!
- During a trip to Chicago in 1988 while sitting in with local Blues-man Jimmy Burns at James Cotton’s Cotton Club, Hedges was heard by Blues legend Buddy Guy who tried to persuade Stan to move to Chicago to “ put him to work”, but Stan didn’t relish the idea of living in such a big city and stayed in Tennessee. Also around this same time Hedges was offered the lead guitar spot in an upcoming band "The Kentucky Headhunters" but Stan wanted to stay true to the blues. However, by the early 90’s Hedges had formed his own band, The Mojo Men with harp player and friend, Will "the Hammer" Rhodarmer, Chucki Burke, Abe White, and Dennis Taylor, but continued to play with Chicago Charlie in The Businessmen. He also played with Celinda Pink, Blues Co-Op, Miranda Louise, Homesick James and his Broomdusters, Bobby Bradford, and the 15 piece New Orleans R& B band Hal Newman and the Mystics of Time.
- In the 90’s Stan played with or opened up for a veritable Blues Who’s Who including B.B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Son Seals, Etta James, James Cotton, John Lee Hooker, Pinetop Perkins, Rufus Thomas, The Jelly Roll Kings, Anson Funderburgh and The Rockets with Sam Myers, James Harmon, Billy Branch, Lonnie Mack, Snooky Pryor, Tracy Nelson, Robert Jr. Lockwood, The Thunderbirds, Jackie Pearson and Warren Haynes of The Allman Brothers, Dr. John, Jerry “Boogie” McCain, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Various members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wet Willie, Jimmy Hall, Homesick James, Honeyboy Edwards, Johnny Shines, The Band, The Kinsey Report, C.J. Chenier, Lil’ Ed and the Blues Imperials, George Thorogood, Frank Frost, Gatemouth Brown, Fingers Taylor, and many others.
- In 1995, The Mojo Men recorded their first CD entitled “Meat n’ Three”. It garnered rave reviews from critics, including Nashville’s supreme critic Robert Oermann. The all original CD is still being played by Blues Stations across the country and Europe and is considered by many to be a classic. With many favorites including “Gas Tank for a Love Machine”, “I Don’t Know If It's True But It Happened to Me”, and “TV Dinner Blues”. In 2003 The Mojo Men were nominated for Nashville’s “Best Electric Blues Band” by the Music City Blues Society.
- Along the way Hedges has lent his guitar to many CD’s and projects including “ Heavy Harp” with Sam Myers and Billy Branch, Miranda Louise’s first release, Hal Newman’s “ Riverboat Rhythm and Blues”, released a Country- Blues project with friend Damon Wherry called "The Hedges Wherry Project", lent his talents to gospel recording artists, The Quicks, and has worked with the country’s best producers including Dan Penn, Cowboy Jack Clement, Joe Scafe, Ronald Lynn, and Randy Liago.
- Hedges is a published songwriter, whose songs have appeared on Dan Ackroyd’s weekly Radio National Blues Hour, King Biscuit Time, and other Blues Stations all over the world.
- Stan’s guitar playing has received accolades from various artist’s and organizations:
“Arguably The best blues guitarist in the Southeast” Miranda Louise
“ A great guitar player with a lot of soul” Robert Jr. Lockwood (Famous
blues artist, Chess Records staff guitarist, original performer on King
Biscuit Time, and the step-son of Blues fore-father Robert Johnson)

stand up”, "A local treasure" “ Possibly one of Nashvilee's most underated guitarists” Music City Blues Newsletter
