About me:
LIGHTNING AND THUNDER:
ROBINSON AND RILEY LOOK TO MAKE NOISE IN RYE
On July 16th, two of Joe DeGuardia's brightest stars, "The New" Ray Robinson (10-0, 4KO) and Yathomas Riley (5-0, 3KO) will look to stay unbeaten as they battle it out against two tough veterans on the Star Boxing promoted show at the beautiful Hilton Rye Town Hotel in Rye Brook, NY.
Robinson will be taking yet another step up in competition when he squares off against seasoned veteran Harrison Cuello (18-10-3, 14KO) while the light heavyweight Riley will battle it out against Andre Hemphill (8-11-2, 5KO). Both fights are scheduled for six rounds.
Neither Cuello or Hemphill are easy opponents. Cuello has been in with the likes of jr. welterweight contender Mike Arnaoutis, undefeated jr. middleweight contender Vanes Martirosyan, former jr. welterweight champion Randall Bailey, and even holds a third round TKO of then highly touted jr. welterweight contender Edgar Santana.
Riley's opponent Hemphill has only been stopped twice in his career, with his eleven losses coming against opponents with a combined 84-7 record.
The last time both Robinson and Riley fought it was back on February 13th, on the nationally televised ESPN "Friday Night Fights" telecast. Both were equally impressive, with Robinson scoring a third round TKO over previously unbeaten Darnell Jiles in the co-feature bout of the evening, and Riley handing a vicious four round beat down to Julius Jackson in the TV opener.
"I believe that one day you may see both Ray and Yathomas as world champions of their weight divisions," stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and founder of Star Boxing. "Stylistically they are complete opposites, with Ray being more of a flashy type of fighter, that puts his combinations together well and boxes beautifully. He has lightning quick hands and uses his size (Robinson is extremely tall for his weight class, standing in at six feet even) very well to keep his opponents off balance.
"Yathomas on the other hand is an absolute terror inside that ring. He comes straight forward and if he catches you, you better believe you're going to feel it. When he connects it almost sounds like thunder he puts so much force behind it. There is no question that Yathomas has tremendous power in both of his hands, and as seen in his last fight he is also a devastating body puncher. Both of these guys are very entertaining and always put on a good show. We expect them to both come out victorious on the 16th and continue to move forward in their respective careers."
Both the 24-year-old Robinson and the 26- year-old Riley are highly skilled fighters, with good amateur backgrounds. Robinson boxed for the U.S. National team, and was ranked as one of the top three fighters in the world as an amateur in his weight class. Riley was a 2006 National PAL and National Golden Gloves champion, and also competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials. Robinson was born in raised in the fighting city of Philadelphia, while Riley hails from Miami-Dade County, but now lives and trains out of the Bronx. Look for these two prospects to continue to progress in the professional careers as they gradually climb the latter towards world title contention.
HILTON RYE TOWN HOTEL UNDERCARD ANNOUNCED
On Thursday July 16th, Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing brings live boxing back to Westchester County, when former light heavyweight world title challenger, Port Chester's own David Telesco (29-6-1, 24KO) returns to the ring for the first time since 2005 when he takes on New Jersey's William Gill in the main event bout of the evening. The bout is scheduled for eight rounds in the light heavyweight division, and will take place at the beautiful Hilton Rye Town Hotel in Rye Brook, NY.
In the co-feature bout of the evening Star Boxing's hot jr. welterweight prospect, "The New" Ray Robinson (10-0, 4KO) returns to the ring for the first time since his nationally televised (ESPN2 Friday Night Fight) third round TKO over previously unbeaten Darnell Jiles when he takes on game veteran Harrison Cuello (18-10-3, 14KO). The bout is scheduled for six rounds.
In an eight round super featherweight special attraction, Yonkers resident, Pasqual "El Tigre" Rouse (20-13-2, 11KO) takes on Puerto Rico's Juan Nazario (6-1-1, 4KO) in a classic Dominican vs. Puerto Rican showdown. The Dominican native Rouse will surely have the hometown crowd on his side as he looks to add yet another victory to his resume.
Hard hitting light heavyweight Yathomas Riley (5-0, 3KO) looks to stay unbeaten when he battles it out against Philadelphia's Andre Hemphill (8-11-2, 5KO) over six rounds. For the Star Boxing promoted Riley, who hails from Miami, but now resides in the Bronx, it will be the young prospects first scheduled six rounder.
Exciting featherweight prospect, Eilon Kedem (9-2-3, 7KO) looks to get back into the win column when he takes on veteran Robert DaLuz (12-19-2, 9KO) in a six round featherweight contest. The 24-year-old Kedem, who hails from Herzelia Israel, has yet to lose when fighting on U.S. soil.
Rounding out the card is the pro-debut of Stamford, Connecticut's Ahmad Mickens. Mickens is scheduled to take on the Bronx's Phil Hannah (0-2). The bout is scheduled for four rounds in the light heavyweight division.

Over the past two weeks, Star Boxing has added numerous wins and yet another champion to its roster, but this time it wasn't in Boxing but rather in Baseball.

RODRIGUEZ TO FIGHT FOR WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD:
RODRIGUEZ - HLATSHWAYO II FOR IBF BELT
On August 1st, Star Boxing's IBF #2 rated, Delvin Rodriguez (24-2-2, 14KO) will fight for the Vacant IBF Welterweight Championship of the world when he takes on IBF #3 rated Isaac Hlatshwayo (28-1-1, 10KO) in a rematch of their highly entertaining draw that took place in November in Hlatshwayo's home country of South Africa. Rodriguez v Hlatshwayo is promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and is set to take place at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT.
"Of course I was not happy after the first fight. I know I won the fight, most people who watched the fight, including the South African press know I won the fight, the only people who didn't seem to know were two of the three judges," stated Rodriguez. "I went into his backyard and fought him and then we set the rematch to be over here in the states and he wouldn't come. So instead of waiting around for him I took on Shamone Alvarez and beat him, earning the #2 spot in the IBF ratings. Isaac is rated number three, so the only way he can win the title is by going through me and I promise you that there is no way that is going to happen."
"I know I am going to knock him out this time around so the scorecards won't matter. I know that I can take his best punches and that he can not take mine. In the rematch I am going to go right at him from the opening bell until I knock him out. It is going to be great to have all my fans there supporting me and cheering me on to victory. I have a bad taste left in my mouth from November 17th. I plan on getting rid of it in spectacular fashion come this August and fulfilling my life long dream of being the welterweight champion of the world."
"The first fight was a good fight, definitely worthy of a rematch. While I think its noteworthy that the press in South Africa thought Delvin won the fight, as did I, it is going to be a great rematch and I am looking forward to August 1st , not backward," stated Rodriguez promoter Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing who was ringside for the bout.
In their first encounter, the two battled to a twleve round majority draw. Those watching the fight, including many of the South African press, felt that although the fight was close, Rodriguez did more than enough to pull out the victory. Rodriguez was the busier fighter, landed more punches, carried the fight pretty much for the entire twelve rounds, and even dropped Hlatshwayo hard in the 9th. Unfortunately for the Dominican native Rodriguez, who now resides in Danbury, CT, it was still not enough in the judges' eyes to award him with the victory.
This time around promoters were required to submit a purse bid to see where the bout would take place. Luckily for Rodriguez, his promoter DeGuardia produced the winning big, something that definitely gives Rodriguez an advantage.
"Delvin promised me that if he gets a rematch against Hlatshwayo in the U.S. that he is going to knock him out. We delivered on our end by winning the purse bid, now Delvin must deliver on his, and trust me when I tell you I couldn't be more confident that he will," stated DeGuardia.
"Mohegan Sun is thrilled to play host to this exciting rematch between two of the world's top welterweights. With the IBF World Welterweight Title on the line and this taking place in Rodriguez's backyard, we are sure to have a packed house on hand to witness a great battle between these outstanding warriors," stated Bob Yalen, Director of Sports & Entertainment at Mohegan Sun.
Rodriguez vs. Hlatshwayo II is promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing in association with Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort. A complete list of undercard will be announced shortly. Tickets are priced at $125, $75, $45 and $30 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster customers may log on to ticketmaster.com or purchase tickets by calling 1-800-745-3000. RUMBLE AT THE HILTON RYE TOWN
On July 16th Star Boxing's former light heavyweight title challenger, David Telesco (29-6-1, 24KO) will once again step inside the squared circle under the Star Boxing banner, when he takes on New Jersey's own William Gil in an eight round light heavyweight affair. Telesco v. Gil will be the main event bout of the evening. The card is being held at the beautiful Hilton Rye Town hotel, located in the New York City suburb of Rye, NY, and is ten minutes east of White Plains, NY in Westchester County. Situated on 45 beautifully landscaped acres of lush woodlands, the Hilton Rye Town hotel is Westchester County, New York's premier hotel, combining the relaxed setting of a resort with the flexibility of a full-service business hotel.
For the fan favorite Telesco, who lives in nearby Portchester, NY, it will be somewhat of a homecoming, as it will be the first time Telesco has fought in the Westchester County area since 2001. Telesco, who has been in- active since 2005, is excited to be returning to the ring especially in front of his hometown fans.
"David's had some great moments in his boxing career. He has always been a dangerous puncher and was a top light heavyweight some years ago," stated Joe DeGuardia CEO of Star Boxing. "David has been itching for a comeback and has always wanted to be back in front of his fans, so the Hilton Rye Town makes perfect sense. The Hilton Rye Town is a beautiful hotel where fans can experience a great night of Boxing in the Ballroom. We are looking to put some of the top prospects in the New York City area, as well as some of our top prospects on the Star Boxing roster on the card. We expect a great night of fights come July 16th."
