Influences
Too many. Start with shutting off the TV and you will come to understand. Music is a medium of communication, torn apart by the Media. Inevitably we are under siege by whatever gets massive promotion. But we are also prey to rapid technological advancement which we deeply respect, so our major influence has got to be this affordable technology and the capability it offers us to challenge, up to a certain level, the concept of reality.
Nick Dachris is additionally influenced by several Art History readings, Alice Cooper and the Sisters of Mercy (the bands), the stinking shit that is modern Greek society, culture, politics and media, and the global humiliation of being born Greek in times like these.
Sounds Like
... like modern Greek mental dismantlement. And like trying to breath carbon dioxide and humidity, downtown Athens, struggling for basic human issues with Art as the sole weapon. And like a deep sensual celebration of our passage through existence. And like everything else that isn't imitation. And like millions of muted souls given a voice.
A&R's have Starcry listed as very dark middle-eastern-techno-death-metal and GothRock - on the mark.
Our CD's are displayed (if at all) in the same section as Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Front242 and Skinny Puppy.
It comes from the dark sensuality of that miracle of balance between life and death which is existence; it represents the human power to commune and communicate with our consciousness and with each other, our inability to better the world, our failure to wield the universe; it aims at that level of psychic and corporal liberation that is experienced in trances, so to present a prolonged orgasmic state of nirvana or peace of mind.
Fairly obscure. A psychosis of some sort. Fundamentally f**ked up. One more trivial case of cultural disparity. Another 17 seconds. Not half a billion friends, not half a dozen fans, not even half as vain as we ought to be. Goth-Punk with Metal squeaks in Cyber disguise.
Formed in 1990 in Greece. Gone through a little phase under the name Rockshire, another through England and always through hell and high water. Still going. Never compromised. Never will. Just a little Americanization every now and then in order to keep up. How else would you find us here?
