■KATOKUNNLEE プロデューサーKATOKUNNLEE(カトクンリー)を中心とする不定形ユニット。 JAZZやSOUL/ROCK/FUNK/BRAZIL/HIP HOPなどを基調とした生バンドによるサウンドに加え、サンプリングやトラックなどをバランスよく取り入れたものがplayaのサウンド。また、ライブ会場や雰囲気に合わせ､1曲につき3～5曲ものヴァージョンを持ち合わせているところも特徴。 1992年時から都内各クラブでDJ活動を行ってきたKATOKUNNLEEが選りすぐりのプレイヤー達を集め結成。初期メンバーにはSOIL&“PIMP”SESSIONSのタブゾンビやphatの沼直也らが在籍。ファーストシングルやアルバムをリリースする中期、フロントには2人の女性ヴォーカル(mie, yuiave)を保ち、SOIL&“PIMP”SESSIONSや藤原大輔、椎名純平、G.RINA、urb、Kyoto Jazz Massiveの菱山正太氏らがライブや楽曲制作に参加・起用されていた。現在もその名の通りセンス溢れるコミューンを形成している｡ ■2008年イギリスのレーベルMr.BONGOのコンピレーション"JAZZ ROOMS"に I LIKE IT(APRIL SET CUBANO BOSSA REMIX)が収録。
They are the new generation of club jazz unit by Atsushi Sano, who has been DJ'ing based in Tokyo, and KATOKUNNLEE, who has been releasing musical works as the club jazz unit, PLAYA.
They started making tracks since 2007, and you can call them truly modern new generation jazz musicians with their unique style where they repeat sessions with other players based on the idea of a jam band.
They have been recognized by major DJ's already. Their masterpiece "BALKAN BLUE" is a tremendous jazz dance tune with its hot latin percussions, powerful horns, and the passionate piano. It has become the talk of the town since major DJ's like Kei Kobayashi have played it even during the demo phase.
