Starfest is an annual Denver convention encompassing all aspects of popular media, film and television. Started in 1977, it attracts several thousand fans of popular culture for a weekend of social interaction, games and fun. There are over a hundred activities on the multi-track programming schedule. Events include film studio presentations, onstage Q&A sessions with actors - producers & directors, autograph and photo sessions, costume and talent contests, film festivals, model and art shows, collectible merchandise, educational seminars, discussion panels, kids events, fan club presentations, and assorted Klingons, Jedi and other strange and unusual creatures.
Because of the growing interest in horror related media, Starfest has spawned an entire convention within the convention devoted to the genre - Horrorfest. Horrorfest, like Starfest, has its own multi-track programming, guests, performances, film festival and more.

About me: Way back in 1977 KathE started this whole thing. With her sister and some friends, she put together her first StarCon convention here in Denver Colorado. The early conventions took place annually, first at the old Regency Hotel and they were moved to The Stouffer’s (Clarion/Red Lion) for a few years. In 1984, I came on board with big plans. We then formed Starland a merchandising company which allowed us to start producing events and selling things full time to pay the bills.
Initially we started producing a summer conventions to complement our fall StarCon. That summer show evolved into StarFest and various other conventions that we produced and attended in the U.S. Australia, Germany, England and on the high seas. We then rode the Star Trek Next Generation bubble until 1997 when we were producing and attending as many as 4 conventions per weekend, had two retail stores in Denver with affiliates in Germany and Australia, and our catalog was being sent all over the planet.
Then – all at once – everything changed. Star Trek got cold.
We closed our retail stores, moved our merchandise sales onto the internet and stopped flying all over the place. The worst thing was that we had to find something else that would keep us from having to get real jobs. That’s when we were forced to see if we could turn our annual haunted house hobby into a money making venture. It had already gone from a three weekend thing into a permanent annual event in the (now demolished) Buckingham Shopping Center in Aurora Colorado.
Once we figured out how to make the haunted house profitable, something had to give and we stopped producing our StarCon conventions in September. Now, because we can’t get enough of a good thing, we build and run up to 6 haunted houses every year and produce the StarFest convention in April. We also now have a few other businesses that our family runs including: used cars, a trailer dealership, a real estate business, and our grandson Daniel makes penguins out of pipe cleaners. From this website we help the studios promote their movies by running online contests for tickets to movie screenings and giving away DVDs.
Who I'd like to meet: If you're interested in what we're interested in, then we're interested in meeting you. You'll be like part of the family... just dont forget to wipe your feet and don't put your shoes on the furniture.
B9 Greg and His Human
B9 Greg and his pals are members of the B9Builders Club that will be meeting at Starfest. Believe it or not, the guys that build these robotic masterpieces are more than happy to tell you how to make your own mechanical creations. B9 and his buddies will be in the Starfest Model Show at the Starfest Entertainment Festival. There you can find and participate in hundreds of activities and demonstrations. It all takes place April 17-19, 2009.
LOL! Yeah, it was a pretty close shave between zombie chow and becoming a ghost. Right now I'm looking more the part of the zombie between the bruises and the rug burn and the limping. hahaha
