Starmachines' music began as a backlash to the widespread institutionalization of modern American society, and the damage caused by surrendering one's own quality of life in the exchange for safety and security. But, the music has since broadened to encompass a global perspective, and involves themes revolving around human intimacy, isolation, and primitiveness. Songs range from aggressive dance anthems to darkwave-inspired ballads, drawing influence from a wide range of styles including underground club music, alternative rock/pop, and instrumental art (or "classical") music.
The horror of institutionalizing one's life due to fear or insecurity, whether by religion, university, or the institution of laziness, is a driving theme in the music of starmachines. Life as many of us know it has become so dense and chaotic that it's sometimes difficult to find lucidity in the core reasons we not only plan our futures, but wake up, persist, engage in human connections and challenge ourselves to push what little potential we truly have. But somewhere, buried in the mess of our societal machinery, there is still a sense and a beauty -- even if that sense is senseless and that beauty is ugly -- a magnificent human error and a reminder from our Collective Consciousness that it's okay to indulge in the honesties of life, however dreadful or pleasant they might be. Because after we ride this freak show for all it's worth, of the greater injustices would be the apathy in understanding it.
Starmachines has recently finished producing their third EP, Violent Light, and is in the process of releasing their full-length, Beautiful Hearts In Motion.
We're currently booking shows for this Fall 2009. If you're a promoter or band interested in working with us, go ahead and just send us a message directly to our page here. Thanks! [latr] -_^
