    Alex v.S.'s Interests
GeneralMusic, art, philosophy, states of mind, parallel universes ...oh, and that other thing. I've had about 10 web-sites up over the years - including The Sydney Morning Herald's "Best personal site on the Web" (1999). As "ozguitar", I once had over 150 videos up on YouTube, with 200,000 viewings - I'm now at www.youtube.com/avs002, with "best of" and new clips.
MusicMostly stuff from the 60s and 70s: rock, fusion, progressive. Also a lot of classical and jazz. People-wise, John McLaughlin, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Yes, Miles Davis, Stravinsky... some Zappa. I make lots of original music, too (check YouTube and my web-sites).
MoviesI don't like modern films - other than some anime. Of the older stuff, I prefer science fiction (I suppose) - and "head" movies from the 60s and 70s. Older still - the work of Jean Cocteau and other genuinely creative types. Of course, I make my own clips too now (check out the ones here!).
TelevisionYouTube is my television now - I've downloaded thousands of clips, though I've managed to ween myself off it. But if there's something worth finding, video-wise, I look there first. Otherwise it's the internet and DVDs. Oh, and Dr. Who (while Tennant's at the TARDIS controls and the scripts are good).
BooksNothing has impressed me for a while. I do a lot of writing, myself - and hope to have books published sometime. Of my "old" literary idols, there's Henry Miller, Jorge Luis Borges, Carlos Castaneda and P.J. O'Rourke. I also collect Japanese dojinshi (comics) online.
HeroesMost of them are here now. And my achievements are nothing to sneeze at, either - check the picture gallery!

About me:
I suppose I'm a "cool" guy (who am I to tell?). I work - and write, make music and put videos together in my spare time. Check for "the serious stuff" in the Interests column. And I can "really play guitar", too (so I'm told): electric to the left (I play everything on the album/s) and acoustic below, if you care to listen.
Who I'd like to meet:
New friends, music fans and inquisitive types. People to chat, socialise, visit, travel or stay with. Email avanstar@ihug.com.au (no spammers or time-wasters please) - but I rarely read my email anyway, so...

Thanks for getting back to me, and thanks for the detailed notes, I LOVE constructive criticism!
I thought your avs002 vid was cool!
Interesting point about the free range camera and unique shots, shooting actors in front of portable green screens is very restrictive, I love when I can shoot outdoors and be more free with the camera, we're stuck in the studio for a while now do to the cold weather (We live in Canada).
Good point about more range of emotions in the show although I think we've had some sad moments on the show, finding Dru's father (ep4) and partner dead (ep3), I find Slorf pretty funny at times so far (He'll get better looking, it was my first attempt at puppetry), just built a creature that can blink which is cool.
I'll take your notes to heart, I think it's all good advice!!
Thanks,
Travis

Hey,

I'm proud to finally release "Heavy In The Beats Vol. 1 - A Different Drum", the first installment in my mixtape series dedicated to giving drummers and percussionists exposure.  "Volume 1" focuses on the avant garde side of the instrument, and features pieces from Billy Martin (of Medeski Martin & Wood), myself, Steve Honoshowsky, and others!

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)

Promotional Video(My Girl From The South Sea Isles)

"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

hey!
we are trying to change something...
our new singer erik can't be a full member of dreamscape because the stess to travel a lot is affecting his health.
so we decided to work with more than one singer - honestly we will work with even more than two...
hopefully you will like that idea! we like it a lot because we will be very flexible and our sound will become even more complex!
kind regards!

Dust and Shadow: an Account of the Ripper Killings by Dr. John H. Watson, available everywhere April 28th....

Photobucket

"At long last, an author of rare talent combines a thorough, enthusiastic knowledge of the Sherlock Holmes canon with truly rigorous research into, and respect for, the Jack the Ripper killings. Where others have failed, Lyndsay Faye's extremely impressive debut novel succeeds, on every level, providing thrilling entertainment without blatant exploitation. It will instantly take a place of distinction among the best attempts of contemporary authors to continue the work of Arthur Conan Doyle, and is, quite simply, a must for Holmes fans and Ripperologists alike.
