You may ask, who is Aloha Mischeaux…, and you will find a singer, song writer, performer and a person full of personality and wit. “I’m a butterfly,” said Aloha, when asked how she sees herself. Aloha is indeed a butterfly, someone that has evolved from grandma’s kitchen performer in her tap shoes to a savvy attention grabbing performer.
“ I used to dress up in my grandma’s church clothes and perform in the kitchen.” Before the entertainment world met Ms. Aloha, she was already a star, at least in her own mind. “I’ve been thinking I was famous since I was three.” Aloha is a person that has a contagious spirit, you just have to smile when you are around her. In her words, “I am a big character.”
“I used to make my own shows when I was little, I had so much freedom to be a character.”
This character(s) that Aloha entails are appreciated in her current career. During the 4th season of American Idol, the world only received a taste of what Aloha presently has to offer. As a finalist in the top 24 on American Idol, Aloha did not let her elimination from the show eliminate the opportunities and experiences that would come her way. Even looking back and comparing then and now, Aloha says that she as well as her career has traveled light years. From the growth of her voice to the tactics used to pursue her career this butterfly is no longer in its cocoon.
Prior to performing and being critiqued on American Idol, Aloha began her journey of becoming an artist in New York. Aloha worked steadily while attending the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City. As a hungry artistic she was working vigorously to improve all of her talents from dancing, acting to singing. Though Aloha did not find that big break in which she was searching for in New York, she definitely obtained a go- getter attitude and has not stopped.
Now back in her home town, St. Louis, Mo, she is constantly in the studio, and performing every chance she gets. “I am always writing and recording.” The musician in Aloha has been brewing since she was very young, even at seven years old she was writing. “My first song was called L.O.V.E. Love, and it was about saving the world, even as a child I noticed how people threw trash on the ground.” The unconscious eco savvy child and gifted performer is still just as creative today. When asked what is the best part of this career at the end of the day? “Creating!! hands down,” was her immediate response. From her style, hair to shoes it all requires creativity. As Aloha laughed, she mentioned that even her shoes on today were inspired by one of her songs, “Whatever I wake up singing usually determines my outfit.”
As Aloha works consistently on her career she says, “I am comfortable with being me.” She once was a caterpillar that had not yet experienced the world, but now she is a butterfly that literally sees the sky as her limit. Her favorite quote by W.E.B. DuBois, sums Ms. Aloha up well and it starts off, “Our deepest fear are that we are inadequate…” and Aloha has learned to not be afraid of herself, and all that she is capable of.

There is no end to the different ways that people look at life. People view existence in this world through very different sets of eyes. Even when people look at the same circumstances and situations, different people have totally different views. Let me use two examples as illustrations.
To some people, life stinks. No matter what the circumstances are or the situation is, they always see the stinky things. Trouble chases them like a vicious dog. Problems cling to them like ticks. Tragedy rains on them like hail stones. When something good happens, they cannot enjoy it. They spend their time wondering when the bad will come. If they win a million dollars, the taxes are horrible. When someone is kind to them, they wonder, "What is that person trying to do to me?" To them, life is horrible, so they look for the bad in every situation.
To some people, life is wonderful. Everything is wonderful! If trouble chases someone like an angry dog, that person irritated the dog. If problems cling to someone like ticks, that person walked among the ticks. If tragedy falls on someone like hail stones, that person chases tornadoes. Life is naturally good! Bad things do not happen unless you invite them into your life. They never look at life and see anything bad.
