Tom Ammaniano (state assemblyman from San Francisco) just introduced a
bill into the state assembly to tax and regulate marijuana as we do
alcohol -- i.e., it would be legalized, taxed, and regulated. Like
alcohol, sales would be limited to folks over 21, penalties would be in
place for dui, sale to minors, etc. in other words, it sounds like the
right approach. The bill's official number is AB390, and more info will probably be available soon at www. norml. org and www. mpp. org.
If you have a minute, call and/or email your state assembly person and
Senator to encourage them to support the bill. You can look up their
contact info online based on your zip code:
http://www. legislature. ca. gov/port-zipsearch. html.
Feel free to pass this along. The bill is fighting an uphill battle
against a vast legacy of misguided and uninformed policy, and it will
only have a chance of passing if people speak up in favor.
This bill will provide California with one billion dollars of revenue each year (each ounce is taxed $50)

transferd fm.msg:: ...and the Award for Best Arts Coverage:Series goes to... "The Open Mic Documentary" (applause...;-) I want to thank everyone involved, especially Hotel Utah, the Freight & Salvage, the Starry Plough, Cafe International, the Missouri Lounge, Blakes On Telegraph, the Oakland Metro, Sweetwater, South Bay Folks, Red Rock Coffee, the Uptown ... The program director told me after the show that I must really know where the best open mics were because each of the performances was so good. Never a dud. I think that comment speaks for itself. Of course editing helps ;-)
I want to express my thanks to all the people I have filmed for their participation. We are now in negotiations with Comcast to cover the East Bay with the show. Stay tuned...
Hi myspace folks of the Bay Area. I've just moved to Northern California and I'm hoping to connect with like minded people who are into meditation or music or ecology or wholefoods or saving the planet or retiring in the woods with a pet otter. I'm a meditation teacher, a monk, and a musician from New Zealand and I'm performing a house concert in Berkeley next week. I call my music Spiritual Eco-Folk - I play guitar and sing - a bit like Cat Stevens or Donovan if you remember them! And I have an ecological multimedia show that goes with the music called "Warriors of the Rainbow". There will be a short meditation at the end of the concert, followed by light refreshments. I'd love you can come:

I’m looking forward to bringing my critically acclaimed Latin-infused neo-folk music back to the Starry Plough Pub this Thursday, Aug. 28.
It’s an international, multilingual lineup that includes Geva Alon from Tel Aviv, and Krystle Warren, who hangs her hat in Paris, New York and San Francisco.

A night of excellent draft beer, fine food and terrific live music played through a new, tuned Meyer Sound system. It doesn’t get any better than that!
