Although Brie cheese is usually not "cheap" it can be found on sale and is a delicious appetizer or light dessert when combined with apple slices.
Remove the rind from your wedge of brie and place in a microwavable safe bowl. Heat until soft. Let stand. Core and slice 1 red apple and one green apple and arrange alternately on a plate leaving the center for your bowl of brie. For a decoratively delicious touch pick up a 99 cent bag of sliced almonds and sprinkle on top of the brie. Reheat for 30 seconds in the microwave and then place in the center of the plate of apples. Serve hot.
Crock Pot Baked Beans
Perfect for cold winter nights, or summer barbecues Barbecued Baked Beans done in the crock pot can be tasty, and cheap. Here's how we did it:
2 cans of generic pork & beans (67 cents each)
2 tablespoons of ketchup (already had that)
1 tablespoon of spicy brown mushard (already had that too)
1 cup brown sugar (99 cent bag)
1 cup generic barbecue sauce (free from a friend, but I did price one at $1.19)
Throw it all in the crock pot on low and simmer until hot... Actually after 2 to 3 is perfect, just stir every now and again. Served 6 for a grand total of $3.53
For those of you who just can't fathom a meal of just beans... they go great with hot dogs which buns and dogs at our local store are often on sale for 99 cents each... hmmmmm... 1.98 plus 3.53... So for $5.51 six people can have dinner together.... AWESOME!!!!!

COMING SOON... OUR STAFF GOES SHOPPING... SEE HOW WELL WE DO FINDING THE BEST BARGAINS...
In order to fully appreciate The Starving Artist Cookbook and recipes you must first have a vision of our kitchen facilities at the studio…
We have a 2-burner hotplate (I have absolutely no idea how old it is, but it appears to be ancient), a microwave oven, a toaster oven that we purchased for less than $10 at the local Mission store, a small sits on the ground grill donated by Marilyn and a crock pot that we also purchased at the local Mission store for $6.00.
So, if you are thinking that you have to have great digs with all the latest and greatest appliances to prepare delicious, gourmet, cost effective (ok, who’s kidding who, we are definitely NOT politically correct), I mean CHEAP meals, then think again!!!!
Of course not all of our cooking takes place at the studios. We also utilize the kitchens in our own homes (especially the kitchen of Jeff Broughton aka JeffYoursElf) and I even set his oven on fire once... Ooops, sorry Jeff.
We are also wanting some input from some of you other artists out there, so we are sponsoring a recipe contest. Read our blog for entry requirements and prizes.
In the weeks to come, we will be adding a couple of sample recipes and updates for advance sales and the release date of The Starving Artist Cookbook.

Just wanted to stop by, say hi & share a recipe:
POLYNESIAN PINEAPPLE PLATTERS
Halve & core one large fresh pineapple. Cover each half liberally with brown sugar, then top with partially-cooked jumbo shrimp, fresh pitted cherries, mandarin oranges, shelled English walnuts & some artistically applied coconut flakes cut from fresh coconuts. Bake until the shrimp's done; remove from oven; let 'em cool a little while you fill a couple of leftover coconut shells with chilled coconut milk & enjoy a feast for two!
Have a good one!

I am truly blessed with the gift of your friendship. I'm very sorry that I haven't been in touch like I should have lately. With all that has been going on with Winston I have not gotten too many chances to be online. The weeks have really gone by fast. I praise God so much that Winston is improving and is almost back to 100%. Now we’re going through an uncertain future with JJ as he remains in ICU at the animal hospital. (Details on my blog if you're interested). Hopefully everything will be fine and back to normal soon. Will you please keep our family in your prayers? Thank you for understanding and continuing to be my friend.
Love and Blessings Always,
Sharon & Family†
