Matt Payne - guitar/vocals, Jared Wingler - bass, Lee Watson - drums (1997), Chad Burgin - drums (1997-1998), Ross Josey - drums (1998-2000), Jay Brown - vocals (late '97-2000), bass/vocals 1998, Courtney Navey bass (1998), Junior Heinrich - bass (1998)
And a few people who, for different reasons, never played a show with us:
Daniel Scruggs - guitar (1998)
Mark ??? I can't remember his last name! - drums (2000)
Joel Sain - considered for bass sometime in 1999.......I think
And last, but not least, our biggest (and probably ONLY ....hahahaha) fan:
Jay Wooten - bass (filled in for a few songs at a show and practiced bass with us when Jared was unavailable - thanks Jay!)
Influences
Rancid, Black Flag, Splitcast, The Buz, all the other local Statesville Bands, each other, Cockney Rejects, MXPX, 90lb. Wuss, and many, many more.....
Sounds Like
Sloppy punk rock with no lead guitar at all. Turn the volume all the way up on the myspace player and on your computer and then plug in a set of headphones if you want it to sound decent......well, decent for us.
1997 - Jared Wingler, Lee Watson, and Matt Payne started a band called the Angry Beavers. Jared played bass and sang, Lee played drums, and Matt played guitar and sang.
1998 - Jared and Matt hooked up with Jay Brown (bassist for the Buz) and Chad Burgin (drummer for Splitcast). The name was changed to Phandango and Jay solely handled the vocals with Matt throwing in some backups.
Late 1998-early 1999 - Jared left due to work and Courtney Navey (from Splitcast) filled in on bass. Junior Hienrich replaced him, but only played one show with the band before Jared returned to bass toward the end of '98. Chad left to play with Splitcast and was replaced by Ross Josey.
1999 - Phandango played several shows and recorded a demo cd titled "First Pick of the Last Resort". Daniel Scruggs briefly replaced Matt on guitar. Work related issues were resolved and Matt returned.
2000 - Ross left the band and Jay moved to drums, leaving Jared and Matt to handle vocals. Jared left the band again due to work and did not return. Jay took over on bass and vocals and a guy named Mark took over on drums. Mark did not work out with the band and so Phandango came to an end.
2001 - A final show was scheduled but never took place.
Many people helped out along the way and this is dedicated to them. Thanks go out to all the following:
God (the only reason Phandango existed), Jared, Lee, and the whole Alexander County crew (all the AC pnx), Jay and the Brown family, Chad, Courtney, Junior, Joel Sain, CJ Sudman, Ross, Jay Wooten (thanx for being a true fan and for filling in on bass from time to time), All the Statesville pnx, Fat Mike and NOFX (for actually writing us back!), All of the local Statesville bands at the time: Point Blank/Splitcast, The Nifties, The Buz, The Gumsoles, Junkyard Dogs/Strongarm, Knutn Special, Odd Man Out, and, finally, everyone who came out to the shows and helped us out along the way!
I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
