Static Quo takes influence from a variety of sources, but to start at the beginning, the initial sounds that first inspired Will to make his sonic, jazz'd up, psych'd out breakcore sound included the bands Atari Teenage Riot, Aphex Twin, Kid606, Squarpusher, Mindless Self Indulgence; then moving into more non-electronic influences, there's the Dead Kennedys, Rage Against The Machine, Frank Zappa, and Jimi Hendrix.

Static Quo - Passion, Noise, Reality, Freedom! off the new album, Plug in, Turn up, Dub out!
Static Quo is a 22-year old male East Lansing resident. He has been making music for almost a decade now, releasing titles under various labels and monikers, including Soulseek Records, Special Records, and Free Noise Records (and soon, Mobius Records). ‘Plug in, Turn up, Dub out!’ is the 4th release, and the most blatantly psychedelic one, under the name Static Quo. Static Quo started as an experimental blend of drum ‘n’ bass and punk rock back in ’04, and evolved into what it is currently, a thrilling hybrid of breakbeats (both hip hop and drum ‘n’ bass) coated with psychedelic and folk sounds.
Static Quo - the Probation LP (2008. Free Noise Records)
All-New FREE Static Quo album now available! From the same twisted motherfucker that brought you 'Mix for my Friends,' and 'Plug in, Turn up, Dub out!,' the new 'Probation LP,' is a full-length masterpiece; drawing influence from 60's psychedelic pop and rock songs, as well as from cutting edge breakcore and electronica, and a good amount of rap and hip hop, all mixed into a nice, tweaked out, breakbeat soup!
Here's the story: Will (aka Static Quo) was under house arrest at night. At first, it was quite frustrating, but after awhile, Will started making music to try and free his mind from feeling trapped, and he got to a point where he was almost constantly writing tracks. 'The Probation LP' contains some of those tracks - a collection of songs and verses that recounts the many moods of their creator, starting off depressed and melancholy, and by the end, blossoming and coming into a much happier and more mature mindset, with an unexpectedly large amount of confidence; this album shows the ongoing evolution of Will's musical tastes and ambitions, and dips (more than ever before) into hip hop and rap music. One track, 'The Birth of Tragedy,' Will recites a passage (word for word) from a book written by philosopher Fredrich Nietzsche, somehow making it rhyme quite well! Will's sense of melody has gotten more finely-tuned; creating noisy, melodic, accessible, sample-heavy and dance worthy grooves, which could, conceivably, be considered pop tracks!
Static Quo - Plug in, Turn up, Dub out! (2008. Free Noise Records)
Available soon! The first release from my new label, Free Noise Records, the disc is a breakcore explosion blurring the lines between questionable uses of sampling (including the still-fresh pioneering art of the 'mystery loop') and blatant attempts at making 60s-era psychedelic folk music with a strong drum 'n' bass influence! Combining authentic, original sounds and instruments, including organs, synthesizers, breakbeats, and all-original vocals; as well as incorporating interesting (and often rare) samples from the hey-day of the original psychedelic era, 'Plug in, Turn up, Dub out!' tears through your eardrums without mercy! With stylish, unique, and meticulously-edited sonic blasts; and with a vocal style sounding similiar to a weird combination of Johnny Rotten, Bob Dlyan, the Beastie Boys and Jack White (with lyrical themes ranging from self-invoked pyschedelic trips, personal liberation, social commentary, and even a couple love songs) this album would do well on the shelf next to either Venetian Snares or Kid606, about as comfortably as it would sit next to Iron Butterfly, Os Mutantes, and Steppenwolf!
Static Quo - Lysergic FolkBreaks (2007. Free Noise Records.)
A relentless dip in a pool filled with electric koolaid, the listener is taken on a noisy yet beautiful trip exploring the sonic depths and peaks of what is possible and impossible with electronic music. Finding completely new territory for breakcore to go into with tracks such as ’Blur,’ borrowing from turntablism and dance music to create a new kind of airy, organic style that takes electronic music as far into the woods as it has ever dared gone before (and in a very tripped out, bouncy way) Lysergic FolkBreaks Although at times light, smooth, and slowed down; it’s also meticulously spliced together in a very rhythmic, albeit noisy and aggressive, way. If that description doesn’t seem to do it justice, you might say the album invents it's own tweaked out groove-language capable of balancing meaningful, anthem-esque singable vocals alongside unending, rhythmic, psychedelic noise that you CAN dance and/or mosh to if you were so inclined!
Static Quo - Mix for my Friends (2006. Special Records.)
Static Quo's 'Mix..' was originally intended as a Christmas gift for his friends, with every track a different personal anthem for each one of his buddies. Ranging from hard-as fuck blues-breakcore-fuckarounds like the hilarious track, TC, or a remix of Fergie's single, London Bridge going out to Josh (dedicated to an ambiguously-themed pop track he always loathed hearing on the radio) or the song mixed for his friend Kate, a fun, breaks-heavy track based around the career of Ringo-Starr. Mix for my Friends is a goofy album with the potential to incite laughter as much it can make a raver want to play with glow-sticks in a dark room!

Static Quo - Awake, Fully Engulfed in Reality, with the Desire to Live a Thousand Lives (2005. Unreleased..the 'lost album.')
A real departure from the debut Static Quo release, this second project goes into completely new territory. Dipping into an eclectic array of styles, this release represents about a year and a halves' worth of artistic work by Static Quo, including time spent in India during a semester abroad. The album goes from drum 'n' bass and punk to psychedelic, tripped out breakcore and compulsive-style hip hop breaks and loops. There's even a couple of bluesy track on there, which hint at future styles to be worked with by the artist. This album has never been released by a label, it is more or less the lost album of Static Quo's musical resume.
Static Quo - Anti-Corporate Manifesto (2004.)
Static Quo's 'Manifesto' came out in '04, when he was still in high school. It represents the last attempt at Will's jungle and drum 'n' bass musings, and the first attempts at creating breakcore, a style that has influenced his sound well into the present. The basic idea was to combine the intensity and sonic guitar sounds of punk rock with the blasting madness of hardcore drum 'n' bass (tracks like 'Come to Daddy,' by Aphex Twin, or, 'My Hot Red Car,' by Squarepusher.) This CD represents Static Quo music before any outright psychedelic musical influences and is a straight up punk-jungle-massacre to MOSH to!
We have selected the 3rd remix as a part of our ongoing "DJ Shadow Remix Project." Shadow says this one is "A 10,000 miles-per-hour, intricate drum & bass remix of 'Stem.'"

Hi there,
Just a quick note to let you know that I have a new free digital release out now on Cock Rock Disco if you would like to take a listen.
Heres what label owner Jason Forrest / Dj Donna Summer had to say!
Herv: "Not figuratively, but literally in love with Music..."
"Ireland's sexiest laptopper lands his latest mini-album on Cock Rock Disco! "Not figuratively, but literally in love with Music..." is a rave inspired experimental break-acid-core thrill ride of endless ideas and possibilities. Herv packs a lot into the 8 tracks; melodies evolve and twist, beats fracture and congeal and synths collide! It's exciting! But that's not all, it comes with 2 cd designs and a freakin A0 sized poster! Whoa! Can't beat the value in that!"
