WALTARI were Finland’s biggest music export during the nineties and one of the most popular crossover acts of that time – just think of great albums such as “Torcha!”, “So Fine!” and “Big Bang”, which nonchalantly mixed styles such as rock, metal, funk, rap, pop and techno. Their death metal opera “Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die!”, which premiered in Helsinki, earned WALTARI respect even from die-hard headbangers. Former guitarist Roope Latvala left the fold to join Children Of Bodom, and his predecessor and successor Sami Yli-Sirniö has worked simultaneously with German cult thrash act Kreator since the late nineties. Band mastermind Kärtsy Hattaka in particular enjoys great respect and renown beyond the rock and metal scenes, having composed not only the multi-award-winning soundtrack for the “Max Payne” and “Max Payne 2” video games, but also the metal musical “Evangelicum”, which was performed by the Finnish National Ballet at Helsinki’s National Opera and sold out all ten performances. Although WALTARI have lost none of their excellence and are still considered superstars in their native country, their popularity has dwindled outside Finland in recent years due to new trends and unreliable business partners, so the second chapter of the band’s career has remained generally unknown on these shores. “The 2nd Decade - In The Cradle” is an opportunity to get hold of the highlights of this era in one fell swoop. This best-of CD includes one or two hits from every WALTARI album released during the past ten years, highlighting the full musical range of this crazy Finnish band and demonstrating their enthusiasm and penchant for experimentation. Their back catalogue includes diverse numbers such as the relaxed trip-hop offering “Life Without Love”, irresistible pop gems such as “Not Enough”, the good-humoured techno anthem “Back To The Bottom” (that’s the way to do it, Scooter!), the rap track “System Odda Aiggi”, the phat, scratch-flavoured groove rocker “One Day”, and the modern metal riff monster “Wish I Could Heal”. As a special treat, there’s WALTARI’s brandnew hit, the title track “In The Cradle”, featuring amazing vocals which would be a credit even to Faith No More. WALTARI haven’t forgotten a thing!
