Beatboxer, Gameboy beat wizard, bass prankster DJ, slice'n'dice producer. My sonic wanderlust challenges me to develop unique approaches to the simplest aural practices, blending familiar musical territory and fresh ideas or styles.
With unlikely mashups and spacey sampladelic songs circulating around the scene, my productions offer an off-kilter take on dance music. Catch me DJing around San Francisco (or download my mixes) to see my similar approach to mixing; creating a cohesive, fun vibe from exotic / diverse elements.
Strangely enough, my compositional tool is not a keyboard or a guitar - it's a Nintendo Gameboy. Using Nanoloop (sequencing software), I combine 8-bit nostalgia with bass-heavy club styles, or in the case of my side project Casey James and the Staypuft Kid, neon electro folk. Over the years I've been honing my beatboxing skills, just now culminating in a sound library for the acclaimed BFD2 software.
I've enjoyed a thoroughly musical background, including playing percussion in numerous select ensembles across California, singing/dancing/drumming traditional West African music in Los Angeles, and performing with experimental electronic group Cutetheory in Portland, Santa Barbara and at LACMA, The Echo and CalArts in Los Angeles.

feeling nostalgic for the golden days of (don't call it) IDM? have your old Warp cassettes and Rephlex stickers gathered so much dust that it's hard to tell them from your limited-edition Skam faux-fur cd case? let them sit - I've crafted an hour-long masterclass in the best IDM (IMO) for your braindancing pleasure. note: there may be trace amounts of ambient and jungle music in this recording.

this strictly dubstep mix touches upon my favorite aspects of the music, following "the D" through lush technoscapes, abrasive industrial grit, tense trip hop, spacey electro-funk, dystopian dancefloor riddims, and finally reflective ambience.

I've taken your favorite jams of yesteryear and mashed them up with some of the heaviest basslines in the business. Part two of the Brapdem mix series.
I began producing and promoting underground parties in 2006, giving Los Angeles its first taste of UK dubstep styles with "An Evening Of Dubstep", featuring Distance, Pinch, Daedelus (with surprise guest MCs Busdriver and Subtitle), Baseck, Tom Burbank & myself. I followed this up with a series of shows entitled "Nasty Sonix", hosting incendiary acts including The Glitch Mob, Scuba, Joe Nice, Kid Kameleon, Ripley, Djunya, Selector Dub U & Kush Arora. Nasty Sonix now resides on the airwaves; tune into SUB.FM every 3rd Sunday of the month at 3PM PST for an assortment of dirty beats and bass from yours truly, Staypuft.
since moving up to San Francisco, I've started a party series called "The Night Kitchen" in a deep dark space in chinatown. with fresh styles from folks like Jega, Richard Devine, Matt Shadetek, Jus Wan, Epcot & Salva, Baseck, Kush Arora, Ricky Def and Quitter, it's quickly become known for delivering skewered beats hot to your feets. check NASTYSONIX.COM for more info...
sometimes I like to jam out on my gameboy with this fellow who plays ukelele. we're called Casey James and the Staypuft Kid, and you should head over to our myspace and give a listen. we've assembled an EP of aforementioned musical madness, as well as a terrifyingly fabulous Halloween-inspired album (available for FREE from our site! zomg!). you can also catch us tearing it up live on the west coast.. check our calendar for deets
hey, its been too long. We should do the crunchy crisp and analogue synthesizer thing again. Things appear to be spectacular in your neck of the woods. you should drop by some time i think i have a few things that would be right up your alley. bisous
Next Holy Thursday is going to be off the hook! Don't miss some real button pushing this month with Devon Who, Edison and Book Worms. It's been getting more and more packed, get there early. <img src="http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7749/ht10.jpg>
