Scott Reynolds and the Steaming Beast? Damn good question! I'm
Scott Reynolds and I've played music in about...um... a lot of bands over the years. Which is awesome! I've loved every minute of it. The problem is that all these changes in personell have made it pretty much impossible to credibly record and tour under a single moniker. And changing band names all the time makes it very hard to gain the notoriety necessary to become abhorrently rich and famous. And that sucks! Because being sickeningly rich was one of my goals after highschool. So I started a musical situation called Scott Reynolds and the Steaming Beast. Here's the deal. I've asked musician types who I admire (and who are also my friends) to help me play my songs. And a bunch of them have! They make up differing versions of the Steaming Beast while I remain Scott Reynolds. Genius! Right? Damn right it is! There can be like a hundred incarnations of the Beast , all of which kick enormous ass, and I get to be a part of every frickin' one! Sooo killer! Anyway, we just finished recording the first record with the help of supergenius producer, and accomplished multi-instrumentalist Dave Fridmann. Also on board was the freakishly talented musical magician Steven Drozd of
Flaming Lips fame. Wait! There's more!
Drag the River did a tune that came out way way kickass! Add a couple Pavers, a Bleed for Me dude, and a Bonesaw Romance guy, and you've got a bona fide smorgasbord of kickassness and a pretty frickin' cool record. (It's called Adventure Boy in case you're wondering.) I don't know who's gonna put it out yet, or when, but here's a taste till I figure it out. Enjoy! .......Actually, you know what? I don't have the foggiest idea what I should do with this record. So screw it! I'm gonna work up some kickass cover art, and put it out myself. Maybe I'll put it up for download at a buck a song, and if you buy 'em all I'll send you the CD for free. I heard about bands doing that. I dunno, but soon (like real soon) this record will be available, promise! I'm sick of waiting too. So keep comin' back. ________________________________________________________________________________
Tracy Hardman's Cheek(Lyrics):
Patent leather shoes, rain that smells like dirt and driveways, how midday's purple
shadows haunt the hills
make me remember you and how you smelled so much like candy.
Yes they do. And I wonder, do you still?
I'm so far away from then and I know that I'll never touch your cheek again. But you smelled like candy. Do you still?
Sour apple lips, painted toenails, drug store jewelry, thoughts that wander up from then and you
when your new born suggestions of hips, and traces of curves next to me, left me stupid wondering what to do.
The sad strange cicada's song is a reminder that summer doesn't last that long. And dumb boys and young girls just pass through.
Mid-September storm, the thunderheads roll in the distance. When they get here I don't want to know.
If summer is less warm and kisses are less delicious, it's my own fault I know I've made it so.
But deep in my dreams somewhere are your lip gloss, eyelashes, and your soft brown hair. The breeze still blows warm and time goes slow.
And at night when my memories speak I can still feel my fingers trace your sunburned cheek and August is not so long ago.
Yes I remember you, and how you smelled so much like candy. Yes I do.
And I wonder, do you still?
You smelled like candy. Do you still?
___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Jesus, Satan, Gene Beeman, His Car, and Pizza Hut (Lyrics): Jesus met Gene Beeman coming out of the laundry-mat.
And he said, “Kid you look like shit!”
And Gene said, “Imagine that!
Got a life like day old oatmeal, mostly lumpy and always cold.”
And Christ said, “Gene, what do you mean?”
And Gene said, “I just feel so old!”
“Well put your hand in mine, and let us pray.”
“Lord I’ve got no time, but thank you anyway.”
“Well don’t you know my father loves you? And you used to love him too.”
Gene said, “Yeah I remember your dad and I somehow doubt that’s true.
‘Cause our lives wind up so tragic. We die too young or we hang on too long.
And I’ve read your text about what comes next, and I think it’s probably wrong.”
“Son don’t you know who you’re talking to?” “Well, Jesus Christ! Of course I do!”
Gene Beeman’s green Granada smells like burning oil and tick tick ticks like a clock.
He’s got time to find a lot of stuff to not believe, now that he has to walk
Well old Satan met Gene in between the bank and the Pizza Hut.
And he said, “Listen! I can make you rich!”
And Gene said, “So fuckin’ what?
What’s a million zillion dollars when I can’t see the skin for the scar?
But I’ll tell you what. That there Pizza Hut has go a kick ass salad bar!”
And so off he went. He left Old Scratch to scratch alone.
He got a Doctor Pepper and a mushroom Pizzone.
Those seats are real fake leather, The paint is forest green, blue quarter panel front drivers side.
Gene dreams about forever, and why there’s no such thing, now he ain’t got no ride.
[Seems like a blown head gasket!]
Gene Beeman’s green Granada smells like burning oil and it ticks like a clock.
He’s got time to find a lot of shit to don’t believe, now that he has to walk.
Well, Jesus met Gene once again, this time at the Radio Shack.
And he said, “Gene you still look mean.”
And Gene said, “Yeah, I know. I shoulda’ taken that money from the Devil.”

"Drum Monkey"...Goddamn it!!Has to be one of the most driving, energetic and catchy punk rock songs ever written!!! If that song doesn..t get you pumped,you..re not human! All hail Scott, the master of quirky, original, catchy and kick-ass punk rock songwriting!
Cool songs!! Diggin' the vocals lots!! Thanks for lettin' me know. Hope ya get a chance to stop by for a listen one of these times. Take it easy, and all the best!
Hey Scott, thanks heaps and greetings from Stockholm,Sweden. Huge fan of your songwriting/singing since 1989,some of the stuff you..ve written over the years is just so unique.Never heard anything like it before or after. How do you come up with something like "Box","Prison" or "Cyclops",so weird and complex(almost jazzy) yet with such killer melodies!Love it! All definitely peaked creatively with you on the microphone,i know many other people feel the same way.All became more straightforward after you left, for sure. Goodbye H.also, may have been the best punk band of the nineties.
Anyway, take care and hope to see you on stage soon with some constellation. /AXE
