With a win Wednesday, the USA, coached by St. Ignatius coach and Westlake resident Chuck Kyle, would play in the Gold Medal game Sunday against the Canada-Japan winner.
The US, the No. 2 seed, exploded for 24 points in the first seven minutes and 46 seconds to take a 24-0, first-quarter lead over France, in the fourth game of the Junior World Championship of American Football quadruple-header. David Wilson of Danville, VA and headed for Virginia Tech scored two touchdowns. Nick Zachery of Sheridan, IN and headed for Indiana University set up his first score with a 50-yard punt return. Jordan Poyer of Astoria, OR and headed for Oregon State blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety. Brian Fields of Newcastle, DE and headed for Western Michigan scored the other TD. They added 13-second quarter points for a 37-0 halftime lead.
