This usually quiet and timid dreamer became unrecognizable the moment he mounted the steps of a coach. _______from "In the Compartment" (translated by Miroslaw Lipinski)
About me: Stefan Grabinski (February 26, 1887 - November 12, 1936) was a Polish writer, author of horror fiction, sometimes called "the Polish Poe".
Grabinski worked as teacher in Lviv and Przemysl and is famous for his train stories collected in Demon ruchu (The Motion Demon). A number of stories were translated by Miroslaw Lipinski into English and published as The Dark Domain. In addition, some of his work has been adapted to film, such as Szamota's Mistress.
Grabinski died of tuberculosis in 1936.

Thomas Ligotti comments on Blood Will Have Its Season -- "Some writers one admirers and others make one want to do as they do, or try. For me, Joe Pulver is of the latter type. His imagination is so vile so much of the time that it makes me giggle with amazement. And the prose so deadly visionary. I'm grateful that the pieces in this collection are those of a fellow horror writer who has raised the ante on what it means to be such a creature." - Thomas Ligotti
Slava! I thank Thee, Mr.Grabisnki was truly a gem of polish literature so sad it is that He remains now totaly forgotten in Poland. Thank Gods I suppose that his works are known in US and Western Europe, polish Poe/Lovecraft, great mind and great writer. Thank You for creating this profile! great idea!
Here is yet another postcard from Brzuchowice. This time it features the train station... with a train arriving. Grabinski's house was situated within a distance of 200 meters from the station. This is definitely one of the most representative postcards of this writer I ever found. ;)
