The band, led by Stefano Panunzi and Nicola Lori, are joined by an
impressive cast of guest musicians, including Mick Karn, Tim Bowness,
Andrea Chimenti, Peter Chilvers, Nicola Alesini and Porcupine Tree
members, Gavin Harrison and Richard Barbieri.
Co-produced by Barbieri, the album artfully combines Ambient and
Progressive Rock influences to create a sophisticated sound that
incorporates delicate atmospherics, rich melodies, looping rhythms and
hard-hitting riffs.
Recalling aspects of Rain Tree Crow, Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Eno,
King Crimson and No-Man, Endless is a powerful debut statement from an
Italian band in the ascendant.'

Stefano Panunzi was born in Rome and now lives in Torvaianica (Rome, Italy). He studied flute at the S.Cecilia Conservatory of Rome and Pedagogy of Musical Education.
His musical career began in television, cinema and opera starting at an early age singing for the Renata Cortiglioni' R.A.I. (Italian State Television) chorus, and later with the Paolo Lucci' ARCUM chorus.
As a flautist he performed in concerts as part of a quintet. As a vocalist he was involved in the works of some famous conductors among whom N. Rota, G. Pretre, G.L. Tocchi. E. Macchi.
During the 70s and 80s, Stefano has been involved in rock and new wave music, performing in some groups as a keyboard player. Later he began to work on soundtrack music for various types of short films for television, instruction and performances in general.
Since 1980 he is teacher of musical education in secondary schools.
Between 1993 and 2001 Stefano composed the music for some films and for "Camille" of Dacia Maraini, a theatre performance at Spoleto International Festival.

Since 1997 he is a member of the Rome based group Fjieri. The band made his first pubblic appearance in Assisi, on September 6 th 1997, opening the show for the International Peace Festival. Przyznaje, ze jeszcze kilka tygodni temu w ogóle nie wiedzialem o istnieniu Stefana Panunziego. I w tej chwili wiem o nim niewiele. Pochodzi z Wloch, gra na instrumentach klawiszowych, komponuje i spiewa, udzielal (udziela?) sie w grupie Fjieri, i wlasnie wydal swoja pierwsza plyte. Plyte, która – ze wzgledu na udzial znakomitych muzyków, ale takze na zawartosc– musi zainteresowac wszystkich fanów muzyki z pogranicza ambientu, jazzu i rocka progresywnego.
Zestaw artystów, który udalo sie zgromadzic Panunziemu na tej plycie, robi wrazenie. Obok wloskich przyjaciól Stefano pojawiaja sie i Gavin Harrison, i Sandra O’Neill (wokalistka Alias Grace, znana równiez z projektu A Marble Calm), i japonska awangardowa wokalistka Haco, i – w dwóch utworach – Peter Chilvers, wreszcie – last but not least - Mick Karn i amerykansko-wloski trebacz Mike Applebaum. I wlasnie trabka Applebauma (w dwóch utworach takze saksofon Nicoli Alesiniego) jest dominanta tego albumu. Delikatnie snujace sie tla klawiszowe inkrustowane partiami instrumentów detych (No Answer From You, Everything 4 Her, Something To Remember) i gdzieniegdzie ambientowymi loopami (Tribal Innocence) stanowia najpiekniejsze fragmenty Timelines.
Slabsza strona plyty sa utwory z partiami wokalnymi. Panunzi niestety nie dysponuje zbyt ciekawym glosem i nie przekonuje ani w melorecytowanym Masquerade, ani w balladzie I’m looking for. Ale i anielski glos Sandry O’Neill nie potrafi ozywic piosenki tytulowej, bedacej dosc blada kopia The Wilderness JBK (a wstep z kolei za bardzo kojarzy sie z Fadeaway PT). Ciekawie brzmi, ale tez odbija od stylistyki plyty Web of Memories, z wokalem Haco przywodzacym na mysl gdzies Björk czy Anje Garbarek. Najladniejszy jest natomiast Underground, „powietrzna” ballada w stylu wczesnego Porcupine Tree (np. Stars Die) z urzekajacymi „kosmicznymi” plamami dzwiekowymi w tle. Inna sprawa, ze tez ma sie wrazenie, ze skads sie to zna… Instrumentalna wersja Underground schowano na koncu albumu.
W sumie – bardzo mila, fragmentami urzekajaca, choc dosc nierówna i wtórna plyta, zapowiadajaca cos wiecej na przyszlosc. Milosnicy Davida Sylviana, no-man i wydawnictw Burning Shed i tak sie na ten album rzuca jak sfora psów, reszcie polecam spróbowanie.
For his debut-album Timelines the Italian keyboard-player Stefano Panunzi has been able to trap a couple of renowned guest-musicians, who have contributed to the diverse, but also recognizable character of the music with their specific qualities. But it’s especially Panunzi himself who has taken care for that all these different aspects were being forged in one piece with his highly imaginative composition, crystal-clear production and massive, symphonic keyboard-washes.
The title-track, which opens the album, indicates plainly in which direction it will go the next hour: bright vocal, gliding guitar-flashes, spatial drumming, buzzing bas and the before-mentioned keyboard-sounds, it are the ingredients that bring memories of Indigo Falls and Jansen/Barbieri/Karn. And the following Underground, with a role for the Warr-guitar from Markus Reuter, also sets out into the parts into which the former members of Japan are staying, namely the dormant jazzy pop from No-Man (from which Peter Chilvers is also on the guest-list) and David Sylvian.
In Everything 4 Her, one of his five contributions, Mick Karn brings the tempo into a higher level, by which his funky bass-runs support the melodious saxophone-solo’s from Nicola Alesini (known form his Marco Polo-projects) and Panunzi’s Floydesk synthesizer-parts.
In the next No Answer From You trumpet- and Flugelhorn-player Mike Applebaum (who played with amongst others Randy Brecker and Ennio Morricone) introduces his atmospheric tone-colours which refer to Mark Isham. And the current drummer from Porcupine Tree, Gavin Harrison, shows in his on-off performance in Web Of Memories his lovely percussive style, on which all the other drummers seem to have taken example from. The creative impulses from the remaining instrumentalists and singers from Italy, Japan and Great Britain fit in perfectly to the mentioned performances, by which – like I wrote before – Timelines is a tight union.
A beautiful album therefore which follows the progression which is being launched by the mentioned artists convincingly.
十年前，來自意大利Ambient體系的銅管樂演奏家Nicola Alesini與鍵琴手Pier Luigi Andreoni聯袂發表的Marco Polo專輯，因為他們找來英倫音樂詩人David Sylvian、美國Ambient鋼琴家Harold Budd、Brian Eno之胞弟Roger Eno以及Avant-Rock結他手David Torn情商客串，而為一眾歐陸前衛音樂愛好者所津津樂道，畢竟連過往甚鮮有在別人唱片現身的David Sylvian也為他們獻唱，那的確有種非同凡響之感。
似乎這群意大利樂手，都甚熱衷跟外地的音樂人合作。不要忘記之前Nicola Alesini又曾在1992年聯同Fabio Capanni跟德國前衛電子先鋒Cluster成員Roedelius灌錄過一Friendly Game專輯。
讓我忽然舊事重提，皆因聽到Stefano Panunzi這位意大利樂手的首張專輯Timelines。
在我眼中，Stefano Panunzi只是一個名不經傳的名字，然而其Timeline專輯能教人注目之處是唱片Featuring的客席樂手陣容。跟Nicola Alesini殊途同歸，是他們都尤愛跟前英國Art Rock樂團Japan的成員合作。當年Nicola的Marco Polo有David Sylvian，三年後的Marco Polo II，又有Richard Barbieri和Steve Jansen；而前Japan低音結他手Mick Karn，則在Stefano的Timelines內佔有重要客席角色。
猛將如雲
我說Stefano Panunzi是名不經傳的資深樂手，因為生於意大利羅馬的他過去只屬幕後音樂人姿態。
Stefano本是一名受正統音樂訓練的長笛演奏家，來到八十年代他參與過不少當地的New Wave搖滾樂團，擔任鍵琴手的崗位。然後他亦開始為電視台負責配樂工作，又曾參與過不少電影及劇場配樂創作。
沒錯他是Fjieri這支成立於1997年的樂團之一員，然而樂隊迄今還未出版過自己的唱片——Fjieri由前Japan鍵琴手Richard Barbieri（沒錯，又是Japan）操刀監製的首張專輯，目前仍是在混音階段。
所以在圈中浮沉多年的Stefano，這張Timelines才是他的處男專輯。
Timelines是一個以Stefano為首的Collaborative Project。從事配樂工作出身，碟內主力負責鍵琴演奏與Programming工作的Stefano其實也處於背景位置，因而其作品的重點也落在一眾客席樂手身上。除Mick Karn之外，Timelines裡還有前After Dinner╱現Hoahio的日本另類音樂果奇女子Haco、Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)、Peter Chiluers (No Man)、Mike Applebaum (Stan Getz / Gil Evans / Ennio Morricone)、Markus Renter (Centrozoon)以及上述在意大利樂圈聲譽卓著的Nicola Alesini，可謂猛將如雲。甚至這唱片也是分別走訪英國、意大利、德國及日本四地收錄。
藝術搖滾
一位在音樂圈打滾多年的才姍姍來遲出版自己唱片的樂手，Stefano在Timelines內彷彿要集各家之大成而來。因此Timelines就是一張糅合著Progressive、Jazz、Art Rock與Ambient之基因而來的專輯，簡言之是一種秉承八十年代歐陸Prog Rock / Art Rock體系的音樂姿態。
無疑，在眾嘉賓樂師之中以Mick Karn一手Fretless Bass於多首樂曲裡的表現為最突出。共參與了五曲的他，在Masquerade和Tin Looking For這兩曲裡彈奏低音結他之餘還獻聲吟唱，前者更由他跟Stefano聯手創作，歌曲由漫天無際的Ambient鍵琴氛圍，帶出Mick冷冷的Vocoder獨白，繼而再推至宛如Brand X的扣人心弦的Prog Rock爵士演奏功架，相當之歐陸派藝術搖滾風骨；後者的滄茫憂傷，奏出一份空靈無奈，屬觸動心靈之作。
Haco唱出的Web Of Memories是來得那麼淒迷魅惑，神秘而美艷，她的聲音跟Mick的Fretless Bass是如斯絲絲入扣而來。
而分別由Sandra O’Neill和Giancarlo Erra演繹的Timelines及Underground，亦是如斯溫婉、細膩而美不勝收的Avant-Ballad歌曲。
歐陸爵士
Nicola Alesini的吹口樂器演出亦覺驚艷。Everything 4 Her由其迷濛的色士風與單簧管交織出的引子，到他的流麗色士風演奏，打造出這首漂亮的Prog Jazz曲目，Stefano也一展他的Fusion派鍵琴；而在Forgotten Story裡Nicola的色士風演奏亦是那麼的冷艷迷人，簡直是用色士風來講故事。
另一教人深刻不已的吹口樂手是Mike Applebaum，他的小號與Flugelhorn演奏亦非常棒。在其演出下，No Answer From You沉澱著陣陣ECM的爵士韻味，又像某些Sylvian的爵士化歌曲；The Moon And The Red House裡他的Flugelhorn美如月色；聽Something To Remember，他的小號是多麼的幽悒且發人深省。
聽到這裡，方發覺這是一張圍繞著時光與回憶為題的專輯。
喜歡Stefano Panunzi的Timelines的話，那該要留意其樂團Fjieri已進入後期工作的首張專輯，除了Richard Barbieri外，為他們助陣的還包括有Mick Karn、No Man的Tim Bowness、Nicola Alesini、Haco等等樂手，同樣星光熠熠。
