Stefan performs in many situations but most often with extraordinary vocalist Viviane Houle. His group Eye of Newt has many changing members for each movie but the uncanny sounds of Chris Kelly on electronics are usually part of the mix. Stefan also has a duet with world instrumentalist Randy Raine-Reusch.
Stefan Smulovitz transforms the laptop into an instrument using his custom software Kenaxis (http://www.kenaxis.com/). He is renowned for his "quicksilver ability to morph and manipulate sound via digital technology" (Georgia Straight).
He is a performer on both laptop and viola, and has created over 40 live scores for film. As a prize-winning composer, his electro-acoustic works have been installed at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and his composition "eleven" premiered with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in April 2006.
He has performed/collaborated with many world class players such as Fred Frith, Evan Parker, Uri Caine, Veda Hille, Viviane Houle, Paul Plimley, the Now Orchestra and many more.
