For nearly 10 years, I have been privileged to lead corporate musical worship in Jesus communities throughout the country. Different songs have resonated with us at different times, depending on where we were on our collective journey. Most of the songs I have led were written by other worship leaders and composers due to my own insecurity and numerous failed attempts at writing. Their work has been and continues to be a huge blessing to our communities. In recent years, however, my journey of following Jesus has significantly shifted and been influenced by people outside the contemporary American Church. I have found that with these changes going on in me, it has been difficult to find worship music that adequately reflects, communicates, and expresses many of the core things that I see happening in me and so many of the friends around me.
This project is the result of writing out of necessity, not because it is easy and natural for me. It is my attempt to put into words and melodies some of the things that uniquely and authentically reflect where many of us are at with God, the Church, and the world. These songs are not for everyone. However, at this point in our journey, they are definitely for us, and maybe even more, for me. Thanks for listening. Salaam, Shalom.
So finally after hearing you lead worship and talk and everything- last night at Elizabeth Hunnicutt's concert I decided to pick up your CD. It's amazing to have those worship songs we've sung a bunch of times at church- now in my truck where I can rock out to them cruisin on my way to work / school / photo shoot. It just gets me in the right mood!
About a year ago when a group of us 20 Somethings went downtown Minneapolis for an inner city/experience poverty thing, you came to lead worship. Being in that sanctuary full of college students (in Minneapolis) just gave a new perspective to your song "Be The Church"
