Born and raised in Cape Town South Africa, Stelio Savante has made his home in The United States since 1990 when the University Of West Alabama offered him a tennis scholarship. A theater major and Alpha Psi Omega recipient (honor society recognizing participants in collegiate theatre), he represented both the UWA men's tennis and football teams until moving to New York to pursue an acting career in 1992.
His affinity for languages and accents have landed him a staple of film and television roles. Stelio also has extensive theater credits including the lead role of Ecuadorian photographer Bolivar Arellano opposite Susan Sarnadon and John Turturro in '110 Stories' at the Public Theater in New York.
His acting career has been covered by over 30 international magazines including Cosmopolitan, Elle, In Style, Glamour and Oprah's magazine 'O', and over 25 South African magazines and newspapers. He was named #19 in Elle Magazine's HOT 40 List (international edition 2006/2007) and was recently chosen as In Style Magazine's Man Of Style for Feb 2008 (international edition). In 2007 Stelio was named to the prestigous 'Whose Who Of South Africa' list and was also nominated as a finalist for a culture award in arts and entertainment by Simonsvlei. He now endorses TAG Heuer South Africa and several exclusive South African wine estates. In 2007 Stelio was also picked by E-TV's Nicky Greenwall as one of South Africa's most promising actors in Hollywood.
Stelio's credits include roles in several studio films, lead roles in 7 independent films, a 10 episode recurring guest star role on Ugly Betty, two webisodes (including the pilot launch) for NBC's My Own Worst Enemy starring Christian Slater and over a half dozen guest star lead roles on various primetime network series including Law & Order SVU (starring opposite Angela Lansbury in an Emmy & Golden Globe nominated episode), Criminal Intent, NCIS, Sopranos, Guiding Light and All My Children.
He recently wrapped filming opposite Tom Sizemore, Johnny Messner and numerous 'Sopranos' cast members in the action crime thriller, Corrado and also in the drama Live Fast Die Young directed by Tim Chey. And an ensemble lead role in the sci-fi action film, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. Also stars opposite Jenny McCarthy in the Live Action Simulate Video Game Red Alert III Command and Conquer.
Stelio has a list of over 30 noteworthy NY stage credits, including over a dozen Off Broadway shows. And has received outstanding theatre reviews for his work from The NY Times, Variety, Backstage, LA Actor , OOBR.com, talkinbroadway.com, curtainup.com and several other critics.
In the United States, his character (Steve) on Ugly Betty was recognized/profiled by E-TV, E and CNN in 2007, and NBC most recently interviewed Stelio regarding his role on My Own Worst Enemy.
Although Stelio proudly maintains his South African citizenship, he permanently resides in Los Angeles County with his wife and daughter
