Stella Guerden 's Interests
|
| General | Is Darren Hayes an interest?! Seriously, being alive and able to observe everything that happens, learning always more, art with a capital A, Beauty, literature, writing, 19th century in general, its contrasted atmosphere, reading, music, painting (impressionnists, preraphaelits, victorian, etc), social History, alternative subcultures (gothic & what we call the "dark scene"), mythology, vampires, fairies & little people, serial killers, ... | | Music | I've got very ECLECTIC tastes in terms of music. In first place and forever, Darren Hayes. It's been 11 years already, his voice is always floating around when I'm writing. His voice is just the most beautiful one I've ever heard in my life. I've grown up with his music, his voice is both a part of my life and of my inspiration. I'm passionate about him in a way I can't really describe. I love EXCESSIVE artists. Extravagant, shy, loud, sophisticated, mainstream, unique. Eminem, NIN (great inspiration too), electronica (pop, ambient,...), Depeche Mode, Chopin, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Emilie Simon, Massive Attack, and many many others... | | Movies | The Piano (Jane Campion - I treasure this movie more than I can describe), Interview with the vampire (Neil Jordan), Marie-Antoinette (Sophia Coppola, History in an entire new and fresh look, brilliant!), Madame Bovary (Claude Chabrol), Les Enfants du Siècle (and quite everything with Benoit Magimel), Howl's moving castle (Miyazaki), early French cinema (frères Lumières, Méliès) ... | | Television | I don't have TV (and it's a choice I'm quite proud of), it kills concentration. And I don't think I'm missing something, in the end. | | Books | For the major part, EVERYTHING concerning 19th century. I'm obsessed, passionate about it. It goes from novels to poetry (Baudelaire, George Sand, the Brontë sisters, Théophile Gautier, Flaubert, Zola, Musset, they are so many!), fashion (corsets and crinolines, 19th century clothes and aesthetic is a never-ending source of inspiration), to painting, photography, general history, memoirs. I'm insatiable.
I'm starting studying 18th century (les Lumières, les "libertins", Diderot, Sade, Choderlos de Laclos...) and I quite enjoy it as well.
I also have a passion for Anne Rice, and I collect every book I can find, in many editions, etc. I'm at nearly 100 books (by Anne Rice and studies on her work).

I love reading in English, and I'm becoming very interested in "historical fiction". I love the work of Tracy Chevalier, I feel really close to her sensitivity & her conception of history. Her books are jewels. I've recently discovered the work of Sarah Waters, and I appreciate it too. |

About me:
* I'm a beginning novelist and short story writer.
* I'm currently working on my first novel, which is based in the French Second Empire, in the second half of the 19th century.
* Short stories : L'Amour du Détail published in a French Webzine called Encre Dansante, you can download it here: Encre Dansante numéro 1.
Nuages (about the impressionnist painter Claude Monet) won the 2nd prize of the contest of Saint Pol sur Ternoise (north of France). Murmures (my first, unique and last attempt in the erotica genre) was shortlisted for the Concours Vénus Littéraire de la Nouvelle Erotique. L'Heure Exquise (inspired by Degas' painting, l'Absinthe) is going to be published in a Fanzine called Le Calepin Jaune.
* I'm passionate, excessive, and shy at the same time. Victorian, romantic, gothic, impressionist, in their deepest historical senses.

Who I'd like to meet:
I've mainly registered here to stay tuned with my favourite musicians news; and so don't really want to "meet" anybody here. I don't believe in virtual things... plus I'm not that active on the Internet anyway. Please don't be offended if my answers are slow. But I'm curious and if you feel like your work or your tastes may interest me, feel free to send me a message. I hate promo but love to discover new treasures (electro ones especially)!
