A whole crapload of us wen't to the Tibetan Freedom Festival in 98 and some people got struck by lightning wile we were all sitting in the stadium. It was raining and it pretty damn scary. They sent us home early we all went back to Billy, Will & Danny's house and continued partying and playing music Tommy grabbed the mic and started imitating the announcer who was ushering us out. It started from one idea and grew into the total fucking insanity that you hear here. As Tommy is re-creating the scene the weather outside is actually churning and going crazy so you can hear everyone screaming and laughing in the background. The people who were there that I can remember are Ian Bateman, Danny Martin, Robby Martin, Tommy Martin, JoJo, and Billy Martin . There may have been more people. Anyway, we got this on tape and Frank Marchand cleaned up the audio and all the hiss and The Big Hurt put it on their album as the hidden track. Anyone who listened to it regularly knew it word for word and if you know any one of us you've probably heard it recited over & over.
- After severe weather marred the first day of the Tibetan Freedom Concert, the second day of the festival went smoothly under sunny skies, with a few acts originally scheduled for Saturday making up their performances on Sunday.
Several people were struck by lightning inside RFK Stadium Saturday including a 25-year-old concertgoer who remained hospitalized in serious condition as of Sunday, according to reports by the Associated Press.
At approximately 4pm (ET), the concert was halted on Saturday due to lightning and heavy rain. Following a set by Herbie Hancock, concert organizer/ Beastie Boy Adam Yauch and R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe told fans that Saturday's show had to be cut short because it was unsafe to continue. AP reports that 10 others were injured as a result of the bad weather.
Some acts, including Dave Mathews, Green Day, R.E.M. and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose performances were cancelled because of the weather on Saturday, made up their sets on Sunday. Others, including Beck, Tracy Chapman and Patti Smith, however, were unable to move their performances to Sunday because of prior commitments.
