   Stéphane Bertrand's Blurbs
About me:
Stephane bertrand, self-taught bass player and composer, was born in Cannes in 1967. Fan of literature and cinema, he started playing professionally around Nice in 1987 with Scott Parker Allen and others. He joins many recordings and composes several original soundtracks for theater plays (including Michel Gaudo's "Berger des Chimeres"), and also shortfilms. Meeting Jean-Marc Jafet is a milestone; Stephane Bertrand will replace him in his local band during tours. Stephane works on stage and studio with: Amina Fakhet, Hichem Hemrit, Habib Samandi, Jean-Yves Candela, François Chassagnite, Jean-Marc Jafet, Amaury Filiard, Yoann Serra, Francesco Castellani, Thierry Chauvet, Franck Sitbon, Jean-Luc Danna, Frederic Sicard, Alain Ruard, Frederic d’Oelsnitz, Frederic Luzignant, Ronnie Rae Jr, Eric Sempe, Patrice Fazio, Soriba Kouyate, Marc Guillermont, Neil Gerstenberg, Claude Tedesco, Alain Asplanato, Volodia Brice, Daniel Dray... His first album "Esmak?" issued by Night & Day has been nominated for 1999's "Victoires de la Musique". Stephane Bertrand wrote all themes of this record, which also features Jean-Marc Jafet, François Chassagnite, Jean-Yves Candela, Yoann Serra... Second opus "Clandestin" confirms the author's motivation for musical composition. Issued by Night & Day, this album starts a joint-venture with pianist Claude Tedesco, trombonist Frederic Luzignant and guitarist Amaury Filiard. In 2000, Stephane Bertrand joins the G.L.I. (Groupement de Libres Improvisateurs - Group of Free Improvisers) managed by Frederic L’Epee and Serge Pesce, and records three live albums with this band. Besides concerts with his quartet which here includes François Chassagnite as trumpetist, Claude Tedesco as pianist and Yoann Serra as drummer, Stephane Bertrand accompanies Soriba Kouyate in his European tour. He records "Etranger" theme, an acoustic bass solo on "Basses influences 3" compilation, issued by 13 Bis Record label. The bassman also appreciates rock music and has been playing during last years with Akram Sedkaoui (lead singer of M’Source), Kitto... and records with Yang band, including Frederic L’Epee, Julien Vecchie and Volodia Brice, and album for American label Cuneiform. Stephane also appears on four titles of French band "Curl Inner". His third solo album "En apparence", co-produced by Franck Amendola, has narrowed around his favourites music fellows: Claude Tedesco, Frederic Luzignant and Amaury Filiard. Musical direction moves towards today's sounds (electro jazz). Stéphane records the new Amina Fakhet’s album (the tunisian Diva) with the guitar player Hichem Hemrit. The band will be on tour in tunisia this summer, and play at the Carthage’s Festival in august. A new album “Play the fab Four” is coming up soon.
