I'm too slammed to get a bio up right now, but probably the most informative interview conducted with me was for Newtopia Magazine by Tamra Spivey and Ronnie Pontiac. It touches on my roots in American traditional music, my ethnicity, global justice activism, and career highlights/collaborations like with Allen Ginsberg, Pete Seeger, Ween, Patti Smith, and others, but especially on the ways in which new music, to be effective has to trascend the target market bnoxes artificially chained to music by the commercial, profit driven industry.
A volunteer runs this for me (thanks Russ!), so if you want to get in touch with me the best thing to do is to email me at stephan at stephansmith dot com.
Hello there! If I've already been in touch on this please bear with me but I'm trying to get the word out about www. indianapolissongwriterscafe. com
I'm working to create a place that ties together all the people, places & events that are relevant for an Indianapolis songwriter or a fan of this kind of music. There's also a community calendar (that needs a lot of dates added to it) that will soon be a one-stop shop for any songwriterish shows going on around Indy.
If you'd really like to help spread the word I'd be grateful as can be if you copied the little piece of code from either the ISC website or myspace page to display the banner on your page. Just drop me a line if you'd like to but aren't sure how.
Hey NYC'ers.
I know. You're making music too. I can appreciate this. But in the event that you need inspiration, allow me to invite you.
This is the first real show i've done in the city since the Imogen Heap tour, and who knows when I'll be back?! That said, this is your (generic. and i apologize in advance for that fact.) reminder:
Friday Night. Dec 14th.
(that's today, technically)
8:00pm
Googie's Lounge (upstairs @ The Living Room)
FREE. (1 drink minimum)
I promise to not be terrible. Nay, I promise to even be pretty good. And if I let you down, I promise to make it up to you.
(No, i haven't decided how yet, but I'm thinking something along the lines of awkwardly long hugs, chocolate milk, or having your back in an argument someday.)

Over a year ago I heard the tail end of "In The Air" in middle of the night on my way home from work... It was playing on my local NPR station. I thought it was just so refreshing and creative a song to hear, and so I looked all over the place trying to find info about you and find lyrics to that song and be able to hear the whole thing!!! Finally I stumbled across you here and found your official website and everything! Awesomeness! Keep up with the good lyrical messages!
thanks for adding me as a friend. Back in 2002, I heard "Another Man Down" on a Rolling Stone sampler and spent a few months trying to find your debut album NOW'S THE TIME before I found a copy on eBay. Cool to see that you have a MySpace page, and also that I'm apparently the first person to add a comment! I'm very much enjoying your music and I'd love to have one of your songs in a future film of mine. Looking forward to hearing your new music!
