Since I'm kind of new to MySpace, I thought I'd introduce myself. My name's Steve Cline. I live in Maryland where I manage a hunter/jumper show barn. I've worked at the racetrack, too, and I've delivered foals on the nightshift, which was way cool but cold as hell and tough getting used to staying up all night.
You'd think working on a horse farm in the country would be conducive to living a quiet life, but not so. That all changed February, two years ago, when I interuped a horse theft and got thumped on. Later that same year, because of my insider connections and the fact that I was an unfamiliar face on the backside, I worked undercover at the racetrack, an interesting experience and one I won't be quick to repeat. Then, I got involved in an arson investigation last winter in Virginia, on a thoroughbred breeding farm, but that's another story. Nothing's ever easy, and needless to say, my girlfriend is not impressed.
One of the coolest horse-related things I've done happened last May, 2007. I hot-walked a Derby runner and hung out on Churchill's backside for the two weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby. In a later post on my blog, I'll have to tell you what a cool town Louisville is during Derby week, though stuff happened there that had nothing to do with the horses.
Strangely enough, my exploits have been chronicled in four books--mysteries by Kit Ehrman. You can check them out at www.kitehrman.com. There's also a cool book tralier (think movie tralier) on that site.
I like to think of these books as "Dick Francis, American style."
Otherwise, things have been quiet since the 2007 Derby. Our horse won, by the way, but I may be working a new job that will involve rescuing and rehabilitating ex-racehorses.
I'll let you know how things go later.
Hey, I just found out about a new documentary about the Kentucky Derby. Check this out.
Just wanted to give you a heads up that my latest forensic crime thriller, Freezer Burn, is coming out June 3! It will be available in bookstores everywhere next week, and it’s available for preorder on Amazon right now! I'll be doing a bunch of events in and around Philadelphia. For details, see my profile. Thanks for the friendship!
Writing as D. H. Dublin, Jon McGoran is author of Blood Poison and Body Trace from Penguin Books. Look for Freezer Burn, coming June 2008.
