   Stephen McClellan's Blurbs
About me:
........ I would like to solicite interested artists (both veteran and "new"). We've been running acoustic shows at the "new" Acadia Cafe for a few months now, and there actually seems to be some audience for NEW and UNKNOWN artists rather than the "trendy" artists dictated by media attention. I'm sure since the Acadia only holds eighty people, it works as audiences do not have to be large to provide the venue with energy. ......... Frequently, not only does the chemistry between the artists and audience work, but also between the various artists themselves. I need to get more artists interested in trying out new material and share the stage with a variety of performers. Since the Acadia asks that artists only perform "ORIGINAL" music, it's a great way for me to see the new artists.
........... Right now, we are charging a $5.00 suggested donation allowing no cover to those that don't want to pay with five to six artists performing from 7PM until about midnite each Thursday. After paying the venue sound person ($1.00 per admission), the door is divided between DEMO and the artists. The artists 50% of the Gross Gate is then divided equally amongst all the performers. My difficulty has been getting the diverse mix cuz' my sources of finding available artists has decreased since I left the ongoing activities at First Avenue. ........... In attempting to rebuild my access to artists, I'm working with a mulitude of venues, but NOT looking for the normal commercial touring act, but rather the developing artist that just need a stage to work out new material with audiences and other artists. With my teaching I have found access to a great number of "new" artists willing to perform, but I'm trying to build a greater diversity in performances than I'm presently booking. SO, DEMO iS LOOKING FOR VENUES IN THE TWIN CITIES THAT WOULD ALLOW US TO DEVELOP A WEEKLY SERIES OF SHOWS THAT HIGHLIGHT EMERGING ARTISTS. Please contact myself or Neo at DEMO, if interested in setting up a meeting. ................ It's been an effort to get audiences to come out and see "new" bands, but generally such development takes time as any artist who has been around for awhile can attest. ............ Artists interested in peforming any DEMO showcases should contact me at steve.mcclellan@gmail.com. and/or go to www.demomn.org for more information about DEMO. DEMO also has a myspace site.
Who I'd like to meet:
anyone that chances across my path on this present journey

My latest find and restoration. A 1965 Ludwig Club Date. I got it deep in hillbilly country taking Annette back to Wichita for her daughters wedding shower.

Hello!

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.

There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:

Let us know what you think!

Peace,
Elliot

What's up?

Just stopping by to show some love :-)

We appreciate that you're doing your own thing and glad that you're our friend!

I wanted to share an insight that I had recently. Blood Root Mother really believe in the power of music. Genuine music transcends all limitations and boundaries, and happens when musicians and listeners are communicating with one another on the deepest level possible. In a society overcome by an obsession with flashy images and stale radio hits, we seek to do something that shakes the foundation of the status quo. Since the dawn of human civilization, music has been about sharing humanity and truly connecting with others. So stay connected with us, and join us on our journey.

Peace,
Elliot

The artistic activity does not lie in art itself as such. It penetrates into a deeper world in which all art forms flow together, and in which the harmony of soul and cosmos in the nothing has its outcome in reality.
