Stephen Adkisson started playing bass in 1999 at age 16. After a year and a half of learning the basics of the instrument Stephen joined local industrial rock band Sixthstep replacing his first instructor Daniel Baker who took the roll of front man in the group. This was a short lived venture, and in 2001 Stephen moved along with Daniel to Memphis, TN, to attend Visible School where Stephen would study under local bass guru Neal Bowen for three years. With the move to Memphis, Stephen and Daniel created a new band Anemic, a grunge rock band. Along with this new venture, Stephen also became a founding member of indie rock band The American Radio, and worship band And More. After a short stint of only 3 months Stephen parted ways with The American Radio to be able to devote more time to school, and other project Anemic. With the end of the school year in spring of 2002 Stephen hit the road with worship band And More for a two week tour across Texas. The end of the school year brought the demise of both Stephen’s groups as people parted ways to head back to there home states. Stephen and Daniel picked up with a new group Danger Couch with classmate Brent Diggs, and local drummer Dave Kropf. With a new school year in fall of 2002 Stephen served as intern to the bass department of Visible School, as well as began his first ventures into jazz with the group Groove Theory Jazz formed of fellow students, and later faculty from Visible School. Spring of 2004 brought the parting of ways of Danger Couch with Daniel Baker moved back to New Mexico, while Groove Theory Jazz played throughout the next two years. The fall of 2003 brought a lasting relationship with local musical artist Paul Berkes that lasts to this day. Stephen has accompanied Paul in many venues around TN, and a festival in Illinois. In the 2004-2005 school year Stephen served as intern to the Music Department of Visible school. It also brought a productive year with the Brian Porter Band a new venture, playing venues across the Memphis area, and recording a few cuts for an EP. Once again the end of the school year brought the demise of Brian Porter Band. In spring of 2005 Stephen graduated with his third certificate from Visible School. In May of 2005 Stephen had the opportunity to travel to Chicago to play two shows with New York songwriter Dave Isaacs. Two weeks later Stephen joined the band of local performer Dani. Stephen had the opportunity to play across the Memphis area, as well as across the country throughout the remainder of the year including the Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival, and opening for Bo Diddley at the Hampton Bay Days Festival. The end of the year saw the end of his relationship with Dani’s band, but in January of 2006, Stephen rejoined the ranks of one of his first, The American Radio. Through out the next year The American Radio recorded their second EP, became one of Visible Media Groups first Artists, and played shows in both Tennessee and Nebraska. The American Radio continues to play shows on a regular basses. The summer of 2006 also brought the reunion of Danger Couch with the return of Daniel Baker to Memphis. The new Danger Couch soon began work on their first film project Danger Couch and the Tensile of Doom. With much hard work throughout the rest of the year, Danger Couch put together A Danger Couch Christmas, a charity event to collect canned food to help the needy in Memphis. A Danger Couch Christmas premiered the short film Danger Couch and the Tensile of Doom, as well as showcasing many local musicians performing Danger Couch original songs, as well as many Christmas favorites, musicians included Neal Bowen, Nate Powel, Mike Austin, Jeremy Horn, and many more. The beginning of 2007 brought a desire for Stephen to continue his music education, and he began at The University of Memphis were he studies Jazz and Studio Performance under Tim Goodwin.
