Sounds Like
... the breeze carrying the sound of a distant train on a hot night in a New South Wales country town ...
I was born in Muswellbrook, a New South Wales coal-mining and cow milking town northwest of Sydney. At the age of two I moved with my parents to Canberra, the nascent capital of Australia, Walter Burley-Griffin's folly: nice to look at, absolutely soulless, and deadly boring! My first memories of a looming music obsession: having Petula Clark's "Downtown" going round and round in my head for what seemed like months, and intensive interest in my parents' "Floyd Cramer Plays the Monkees" album. My first faltering steps toward actively making music: learning to play the ukulele with Father Frank Anderson in 6th class, culminating in a legendary performance of "Bottle of Wine" at the Dickson Senior Citizens Home Christmas party. Father Frank then showed us what the D, A and G chords on the guitar looked like (and for that a big, belated thanks to Father Frank!), and from then on there was no holding me back! Around the same time, my life was irrevocably altered on hearing a friend's older sister's copy of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits - there followed many years spent in my bedroom, trying to reproduce the sounds on Dylan and Neil Young, and later Ry Cooder, records, and my first tentative attempts at song-writing (most of which landed in the waste-paper basket..). In my late teens and early twenties, in Canberra and later Sydney, numerous band experiences, most of which were scuppered by clashing rock star egos, musical incompetence or a combination of both. Then many years of playing only for myself and a few friends. After moving to Vienna in 1993 (it was lurve!) I began again to take to the stages (well, "stage" is actually something of an exaggeration...) of various Vienna pubs ("Australian singer-songwriter" sounds exotic here...). After acquiring my home studio (ie getting a Mac with Garageband on it) in 2005, my living-room recording career began... I hope you like what you hear...
Would you like a lovingly home-made CDR? Just send me your address and I'll release the carrier pigeons...

I was in Vienna for 4 days in April through Easter. I can see why you'd be content there. We were a couple of blocks from Sudbanhof at the Meininger Hostel. It took us 3 months to go from Rome via Padova & Venice, Austria, Germany, France, England and Scotland to Oxford for a while and then home. All done with a sketchbook and no guitar or mandolin. Very twitchy at times..you know how it is. Cheers, AW

September die Releaseparty ihres neuen Albums „With Suffering & With Christ“ in der Fledermaus Wien. Infos, Downloads, Rezensionsexemplare www.heirstyle.com
