Stephen Sikorski has been a student of all aspects of music for more than 25 years. He began his studies with classical piano, and after writing various compositions for piano, decided to add the pursuit of jazz teory and improvisation to his agenda in order to understand more fully language of music.
Throughout middle and high school, Stephen added guitar, singing, folk/pop songwriting, classical saxophone, oboe, flute, trombone, and bass guitar to his musical endeavors. During his high school years Stephen was a resident pianist at posh country clubs and was frequently hired for solo jazz piano music for private functions. By 1997, an original composition won 3rd Place at the Pennsylvania Rennaisance Faire, he was placed in region/state concert bands, won a seat in the NJ Governor's Wind Ensemble, and not only studied conducting, but lead the award-winning marching unit and band to perform his own original works under his baton.
Stephen attended the New England Conservatory for both a B.M. in Composition and Graduate Study in Vocal Perofrmance and Composition. During his time in conservatory, he focused his attentions on absolute ("electronic") music, multi-track recording techniques, and began working as a Tenor section leader in the Episcopal Church. Stephen is now a full time working musician. When he is not writing for or gigging with his original modern rock band SHADWELL, he is preparing music for Christ Church Waltham as choir director and organist.
These days, Stephen can be found privately teaching piano, voice, theory, composition, and guitar from Chestnut Hill to Malden, MA. He has been faculty of Music 101 in Melrose since 2006, and most recently joined forces with Arlington's Reverb Music Center.
