Ok well I started writing down all these artists and then realised it was pointless because I was just writing down anything I can think of that I like listenin to, which is literally anything and everything... so basically I've probably been influenced by everything I've ever heard in some way or another! Actually, even if I haven't liked it!
Actually come to think of it I probably wouldn't have started writing anything if it wasn't for The Spice Girls, ha ha, made me and my sister want to pretend we were a girl band and I started writing songs.... shit ones obviously....
Hello My name is Steph Newton. I am 20 now. It sucks!. I have been writing songs for as long as I can remember. Ever since i was young i have taught myself to play keyboard/piano and sing, and nowadays I spend most of the free time that I have at home writing. I'm also a college student doing FdA Popular music which I liked at first but now not so much... My big dream is probably the same as any other singer/songwriter's, to get somewhere with my songs/voice as an individal, i don't want to spend my life being miserable! and I've figured that performing my own material and writing is what makes me happy, this is what i feel strongly about and this is what I feel I'm good at and actually love doing.
With songwriting skills developed from a very early age, singer/self-taught pianist Steph Newton is now thriving on the local music scene. As an artiste, her song-driven material blends both upbeat and graceful piano sounds with a soulful, powerful voice.
Growing up in a musical household, Steph soaked up the sounds and feel of classic blues and soul as she honed her own vocal and songwriting talents. Since then Steph has since added subtle influences from the likes of r’n’b stylists Gabrielle and Alicia Keys into the mix and created her very own distinctive sounds. Steph’s songs are written with passion – some from personal experience, some from made-up scenarios.
Afetr spending so much time in her life writing songs for nobody’s enjoyment but her own, Steph is now serious about presenting her musical talents to the public, and is currently doing so by playing at numerous venues over Cornwall and Devon. So far she has supported acts such as Gabriella Cilmi and McFly.
If you are going to see Steph Newton play at a gig, you should expect to hear a soulful voice along with diverse-tempo, song-driven music – written and sung from the heart.
